A normal strat switch can only (well, not only, but basically) be wired Bridge/B+M/Middle/M+N/Neck
A 'super-switch' can be wired in any combination in any order. Normally on an HSH, the 'in-between' positions are tapped, or the middle position is bridge and neck in stead of middle pickup on it's own.

Simply put, it's a 5-way switch that allows the manufacturer to get pickup and wiring options that are not possible using a normal 5-way switch. As far as you are concerned as a user, you still have five sounds, but they may be wired to sound different from other HSH Strats.
