The Shifty label played a large role in keeping original SAn music alive and in providing a platform for alternative acts during an era of censorship. Shifty's roster included Tananas, Koos Kombuis, Jennifer Ferguson, James Phillips (in various guises and with various bands), Urban Creep, Matthew van der Want and all the acts involved in the Voëlvry movement.
This September Shifty presents a series of presentations on various aspects of music in SA (mostly including musicians on the panel) and, on the 24th, a festival of former Shifty acts.

This promises to offer some unique and interesting events. Lloyd Ross, the key figure in Shifty, is the custodian of a large amount of SA music history.
