  • KVR Developer Challenge 2014 - freebies inside

Another KVR Developer Challenge has rolled around. Seems like a long time since the last one in 2012.

It's a pity there was no entry from Variety of Sound this year, but there are nonetheless some awesome freebies up for grabs.

Here are a few of the guitar related entries for the challenge:

Ignite Amps Emissary:

I have been waiting patiently for ages for this release. These guys do some of the best free guitar vst's around, and this amp is by far their best to date. Sounds absolutely superb, from glassy cleans to brutal distortion. This is the only plugin I've played around with so far.

AXP Flextron:

Another amp sim. Haven't tried this out yet, but looks interesting. It has it's own built in cabinet IR which is good for those not familiar with cabinet emulation.

Musical Entropy Guitar Gadgets:

This is an intriguing suite of unusual guitar effects.

madBee Audio Q-meleon:

You can never have too many EQs... and this one brings something new to the table in that it is a 'profiling' EQ. In other words, the parameters are designed to profile a number of different hardware EQs. Looking forward to getting my teeth into this one and experimenting with the various preset profiles.

All of these free vst's along with the many other entries can be found on the KVR website at http://www.kvraudio.com/kvr-developer-challenge/2014/

There is a prize pool, and donations can still be made via paypal for the developers. Please vote and donate if you feel the need to bestow some thanks to these developers doing some great things for the community.
Awwwww yeah, the Brakeback Mangler is a WIN : http://www.kvraudio.com/product/brakeback-mangler-by-wok

Been looking for something like this for ages, thanks & thanked Doc Phil!

If I'd had this a month ago I'd have entered the backwards comp - The brake functionality alone is so cunning that you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel 8).

The Ignite amp's lead channel is killer, but it needs a decent cab sim? I tried my GR4 stuff in combination, but my brief attempts are not overly successful.
Ya the Emissary requires an IR loader after in the chain. Ignite makes a free one called Nad-IR that you can get off their site. Load it up with carthasis 's-pres-high' and you're A for away.
Only found out about the Ignite amp earlier today, already tried and like it a lot, kills the LePou stuff (tried the engl clone and Lecto), really great freebie........really. (haven't tried the clean channel yet, it's not the first thing that comes to mind for it's use but sometimes the "metal" sims can do some really nice clean stuff as well)

I think VoS didn't do anything because they just put out the slick eq not too long ago.
I don't understand why this sort of quality release is free... I guess we shouldn't question it and just enjoy. Lepou's le456 is also still one of my favourites.
This one kills it for me (LE456 I mean), I guess it depends a lot on what impulse you use but this doesn't have that grainy distortion or too much top end fizz a lot of the others do, still have to play around with it more, only messed with it quickly but in that short amount of time it was impressive.

There really is such a thing as a free lunch with some of these plugins.
