Hi there,

Currently I play an awesome TRB5 yamaha, and love it. It fits perfectly with me right now.

I am looking at another bass, as a backup to the TRB5, just in case something goes whack on it.

Something that is not too expensive, but still gives good tone and low end fatness when required.
Even though all basses are generally heavy, something on the lighter end of the spectrum, as I am
a very aerodynamic kind of guy. ?

All suggestions and thoughts would be cool

Cheers
Craig

No one ever got fired for showing up with a P bass.

Good point. Mexi models can be picked up fairly cheaply too.

Otherwise Cort has a great range in the low to mid-price brackets. Their Curbows are great, modern basses and quite comfy.

Warwick have a few great value-for-money instruments too. Not for everyone though. There are a lot of Ibanez around too - generally I find their necks to small, but they tend to be quite ergonomic.

I would go with a Curbow, actually. Loved my 1999 Curbow 5, especially after upgrading to the US Bartolini preamp. Sold it because of body warp, but the new maple bodies won't have that problem
I would have also recommended the Curbows. Great little basses for the money. Having said that, playing a TRB 5, you'll want to keep to something with fairly wide string spacing. The Cort T series could fit that bill very well. Not too expensive last time I saw one, and I nearly bought one as a back up for myself, but for various reasons that fail me know (most likely no money available at time), I didn't.

Other than Corts, there isn't a lot for relatively little money available. You may score an Ibanez BTB for the right price, which have a very similar neck profile and wider string spacing as the TRB's, but it really does come down to what your budget is?

I have a lot of fun with a Cort G-series 5 string. Really solid bass.
