I have a H & K tube amp with a talking PT (vibration)
I know it shouldn't really be an issue to the amps performance but it now annoys me cos i know its there.
I hear this has to do with a slight defect during winding & that its the coils vibrating against each other at 50hz.
I work at my fathers motor rewinding business & was wondering if any amp boffs had advice on if it will improve the PT if i re-varnish the coils and bake them again to seal it better....or is it best left alone...or even perhaps just a better idea to get a new one?
Cheers
C.

Yeah, that'll basically pot the coils AFAIK. Only thing you have to watch out for is if the insulation on the wire is varnish - then the potting varnish will melt it and you'll end up shorting out windings.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge then me can tell you the best method to do this and what to use.

Ye thanx Alan.
The wire has standard enamel insulation & i just need to heat the new varnish so it thins out and can seep in all the little pockets and fill it up. then in the motor oven for a good bake.
i really hope it works....am only worried about takin off the outside slot insulation/paper. Am not too clued up on what they use. Am hoping our motor slot insulation will work.

The other thing to watch out for is heating the bobbin too much, but re-varnishing should help.
