I bought a Fender Blues Deluxe 2nd hand and it is a great amp but I find that the bass is much heavier on the lower E string than the rest of the strings and when picking there is a total imbalance in bass between the lower E and the other strings (even the adjoining A). Is there a way to fix this?
I have 3 guitars (MIM Strat, Squier Affinity Tele and Epiphone Dot) and it's the same on all three so it's not the guitar. I turn the bass down on the amp to make it bearable but that off course lowers the bass on the other 5 strings (which I don't necessarily want).

It can be very basseeee on the lower strings.

Keep your mids up and base down for start.
Maybe a tube or speaker change could help but i am no expert.

When I had it I just adapted my playing style to tread more lightly on the lower strings.
Some Fender amps can be quite bassy on the low strings - that's why most guys with Deluxes or Twins have the bass control down on 2 or 3.

The Blues Deluxe is known for it though - it's especially bad with humbuckers, even with the bass control on 0. There are a few mods for them:

BTW, Most guys see my Twin with the bass on 10 and go ???, but I play bright guitars, have Vox-style speakers fitted and often play bass parts at the same time. It's all relative.
        Fender bass-heavy ?

        W O W !

Sadly, that is not my experience.

OK, so i only had a little 15W Blues Jr, and they do not have the fire power of luscious big bottle 6L6's.
In fact my BJr. had NO low end, even when max'ed.
But then again, EL84's are the Brazilian team of the power amp valves and the 6L6's are the German Team.

The other Big Fender i had the oppertunity to really crank was a Super Reverb, but even then, i was not blown away, or even overly impressed by it's low frequency.

Not that i have the funds for it, but i better see what the Blues Deluxe can do 8)

PS : thanks for the heads-up.
