Hofner violin bass serial number

Where would the serial number be on one of these? A friend of mine has come across one. Would like to try and find out what year it is. He can't find a serial number. Is it maybe one of those where you have to remove the neck or something?

I also have one, mine is a 64 IIRC, they dont have that much value though... they are super cool and very unique..
The frets on mine was played down into the fretboard!! if only it could tell the story.. sigh..
