Greatstuff guys.
Thanks again Jayhell for organising. I'm looking forward to seeing some photos.
Also, anyone got comments on the bands and music?
Here is Jayhell's follow up post, just so it's all in the same place. Anybody else take pictures?
I think all the performances were good. For me, particular highlights were Squonk, Jazz on Blue, and Ragamuffin.
Squonk is a damn good player and has interesting arrangements. I particularly enjoyed his Prog song, and an instrumental piece with a number of movements about the numerous deaths of a hamster.
Brian G was good as usual. I've seen him play at TJ's and Frosty's before and my mind has gone blank and I've forgotten what songs he played this time :-[ I do remember an original in
strummental in drop-D IIRC.
Pete M has a
massive repertoire! Blues, classic rock, tunes from musicals, you name it, he'll play it. My favourite was "25 or 6 to 4". Knows a thing or two about singing as well :yup: Great to watch such an experienced performer.
Keira's playing was
amazing :applause:. She sounds like at least two guitarists and a drummer at once. Great vocalist too.
Peavey Park's drummer fell ill a few days before the gig so they had to quickly put together an acoustic set. A pity, because they're tight as full band and their punk influenced alternative rock comes across a lot better that way. EDIT: Also, VellaJ's lead guitar chops didn't get the exposure they deserve. Pity ☹
Sun of the Gun played some loud-ass rock 'n roll. Jayhell's got some presence as a frontman! :bopping:
Ragamuffin really surprised me. I knew they were good based on the music they've recorded so far, but there's something going on live that those recordings haven't been able to capture. Really interesting sounds. Well written, well played, and they really have their own thing going although it should fit well into the current indie scene. Go and see them the next chance you get. Brilliant stuff! :applause:
I don't know how to describe
Revery's sound. Some serious technical players though. Man, Lethe is a
precise guitarist! And he can shred while keeping it very musical at the same time as well. Some neo-classical sounding solos amongst many other things going on. He's also not afraid to play simple stuff when the song calls for it. Drummer, bassist and vocalist were top class too.
