So on Saturday I went to Sean's house (DDR4LYF) because of my eminent fear of working on electronics by myself. He seemed to know a lot more about what he was doing than I did. Even though it is probably the most simple mod in the world, he inspected the situation and wham, bam, he was done. We went on to testing the thing...

For those who don't know what this mod does, here is the run down. You basically bridge a wire from the headphone output to the internal speaker. The headphone out is a 1/4 watt output as apposed to the full 5W of the amp. So after the mod is done, you simply flick a the switch at the back and you got a very low wattage amp.

The result is staggering. Getting lekker stacky tones at a fraction of the volume. It sounds so cool! Of course it doesn't sound as good as at the full 5 watts, but mainly just because it's so much softer. I'm happy it feels like I have a new amp in my room!

Thanks Sean!
    Nice one guys :goodtimes:

Hopefully you will NEVER forget the flick the switch when you got your headphones on. Sounds dangerous to me. Maybe a better mod could me to install a female cut out jack or the like. SO when you plug in the cable via a jack into the female one it will cut out the headphones ? Much safer me thinks.
The 1/4W headphone out is connected to the speaker. The 5W amp out is ever connected to the headphone jack. Unless I'm misunderstanding things.
The quarter watt goes to the headphones and the speaker when it is on "headphone", if you connect headphones the speaker is still muted. The 5 watts never goes to the headphones only the external cab or internal speaker when it is on "Speaker". I did a lot of research on this, it is safe. I also think it has a dummy load or something when on headphones so one does not damage anything when using the headphones. All though I have to say that it sounds pretty crap with headphones, there is no speaker emulation or anything so it's super dry and sounds dead, but with the speaker it sounds great pushing a little bit of air.

Also we got to push a little ENO OCD clone through her, and it was delicious!
Nice! I had one of these amps when they just came out and only turned the volume up close to 10 once.... Nearly killed my cat with shock and earned me a look from the missus that awoke a very primal urge within me to empty my bowels and flee. ?
Sold it on without really playing it not soon after. If I had known about this mod back then I definitely would have tried it....
