Wow, its like they tried to make it sound like its being played in the room next door...night and day! Did you rerecord parts or just mix what they gave you? Are the guitars DI'd with sims or mic'd or reamped from their originals?
It really does sound great. I like the clarity coming through on the mixed version. That's something I struggle with in my mixing, I end up boosting the top end too much with EQs, exciters etc, the result being an overly harsh sounding mix.

You've achieved a good balance on this mix.

Thanks, I used to struggle with that as well, then you end up with a "scooped" sound from boosting too much low and high end.

Everything in the track is what there was, the only thing "enhanced" were the kick, snare & 2 toms, the rest was what was given.

Here's an updated version, the vocals on the previous one were a bit too harsh for me plus the overall track didn't have the weight/ballz that I like to try and get so I fixed that [hopefully]:

Im in the same boat, I get the same thing where I just can't get the clarity I'd like, especially with my acoustic guitar sound, I've tried various positions for mics based on what I've seen online and I pan my 2 mics left and right but it just comes out sounding dull
Here's an acoustic "before & after", all real recording, this one's pretty much just "mixing" in so far as eq and compression etc (working with the raw files only), still have to do the vocals and put them in (plus the top end might be a bit much):

Maybe if you have a track or two (with guitars, bass, drums, vocals etc) and you'd like, I can take a stab at it, see how it comes out, trying to practice as much as possible these days.
