I now go into shops that sell all sorts of stuff an feel cheated if I don't get a discount....my wife reckons its embarrassing ...hahahaha

Recently been buying bicycle parts and ask (and generally get) discounts but nowhere near the level of music stores.....

Who dares, discounts. ? You never know

Depends on the type of margins in a business - I know the motor spares trade often discounts up to 50% on many items because they have a huge margin, but in the PC spares trade, margins are much lower, so you are lucky if you get any discount at all.
Margins in the pizza business must be tiny......cos I've never been granted a discount when buying pizzas.
By extension of what has been said, the margins in the open road tolling system on the N1 must be huge if the discounts they are offering are anything to go by... lol

On the contrary.......2 weeks ago, on a Sunday afternoon, I was on my way back to JHB from a gig in Phalaborwa. I was on the N1, which was a nightmare. There was a plethora of trucks and taxi's and the speed limits and normal rules of the road applied to none of them. About 60km after Polokwane, it all came to a standstill. Gridlock on the N1 Highway at 14:00 on a Sunday afternoon. I was gobsmacked. The traffic moved slooooooowly and eventually I saw that this jam was caused by a Tollgate. When I finally came to the front of the queue (after about 45 min), I had my R56 toll-fee ready, but the attendant just shouted "It's free today!!!!" and waved me through. I will probably never experience a free trip through a gantry again.......a rare event indeed.
