Thats just sad. Lots of people got exposed to unhealthy levels of radiation for this craze.
They actually mention this in the bbc "The Atom" series as well
In 50 years there will be pictures of us holding our cell phones.
And someone on a forum will say:

"Thats just sad. Lots of people got exposed to unhealthy levels of radiation for this craze."
Another even more scary one is the whole leaded petrol thing. Well regarded scientists had clear evidence in the 1950s that environmental lead was at dangerously high levels and that the source was leaded petrol. But it still took 60 years before its use was phased out - because some big companies were making serious money from it.

It's conservatively estimated that from 1927 to 1987 at least 68 million young children were exposed to toxic levels of lead because of this. Even worse, the guilty companies are still selling and promoting leaded petrol in 3rd world countries, milking every penny while they can.

But then, what do you expect from large corporations? They are - by their very nature - psychopaths.
Interestingly, and vaguely related to this topic..

I heard stories of microwave ovens emitting microwaves a good few meters radius.. while I never believed any of this.. I noticed something interesting the other day..

When my kid is sleeping and the mrs and I are in the kitchen, she places the kid monitor approximately 1 meter away from the microwave. works great... stick something in the microwave and guess what happens, signal on the monitor disappears. It miraculously re-appears when the oven is shut off.

So I guess it is true. next question is, what effect does that have on people in the longterm..

          how's this for scary?????
