Morning People,

So as posted yesterday I've bought myself a Laney IRT Studio head, without a cab.
I still have my Cube 80, and was wondering what kind of mod it would need to be able to use it as a cab for the Laney for now?

I basically want to plug the Laney into the combo and bypass the Cube itself, and when the Laney is unplugged then the cube should work as normal, can this be done at all? ???

Thanks
Simple. Install a switched jack socket (just backwards from the way they are used for output jacks). Then just plug in a speaker cable and it'll cut the amp out of the circuit. If you're not sure, have someone with some basic electronics knowledge do it for you - it's simple enough.
And make sure the impedance of your speaker matches that of your speaker output on the amp.

+1. It'll probably be 8 Ohm and the IRT is switchable between 8 & 16, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Nifty amps those with a great feature set. If it wasn't so geared towards heavier tones, I would probably nab one.

Thank you, will do. the amp is switchable between 8 and 16 ohms.

Yes Alan, it certainly has a lot of studio features, and that's what made it so appealing to me. I play very little clean tones, on the amp will cope with my low expectation of "clean". ?
Be VERY careful not to leave the amps output open circuit or you'll cook the powerstage... that is if the amp is powered up,

Can easily happen, you turn the amp on forgetting that you have another amp plugged in to that speaker.

The Cube is SS and the IRT has a built in dummy load.
                  Al

I know it is an SS, I still have the old cube 30, and I speak from experience, without a speaker load things get mighty hot and smelly very quickly

Thanks to Gearhead my cube now doubles as a 1x12 Cab for the Laney head, and man is 1W way louder than I could have ever expected!! for acceptable volume for home playing the master volume cant be over "2" on either of the lead or rhythm channels, but I do however crank the gain up to get a thick and tight sounding punch.

so that got me thinking of 8inch speaker cabs, and maybe building a 2X8 cab for higher amp levels but lower speaker volumes than the 12inch speaker. I think that the 2 x 8inch speakers will provide a reasonable thick sound at lower levels.

I see Celestion Eight 15's going for about R300.00 each on musicians Friend, and after watching this, www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3CrTtBznlU, I think it will provide the more modern type voicing I'm after.

Anyone have any input on these speakers and/or 2x8, or 4x8 cabs?
