So I'm going for a big interview tomorrow, silly question but is having long hair in IT an issue these days? Have had the same job for 11 years so I dunno what the job market is like.
Job interview
I think it's one of the advantages of IT, I haven't cut my hair in a year, I look terrible come to think of it, but everyone seems to accept the fact that the IT guy looks a bit strange. I think if you sure of your stuff, no one will care unless you actually have to sell stuff or interact with the public. lol
Depends on the employing company and their corporate culture. Long hair wouldn't rule you straight out where I work, but if there were three candidates shortlisted and two were short haired, no tattoos etc etc and the third had long hair, the Guy with long hair would be at the back of the queue. its FIFO here (and that doesn't mean First In First Out) But our business is not IT, IT is something we have to have. If you're looking at a company whose business is IT and who employ backroom boys then its prolly less of a consideration.
Thanks guys.
Well if it is meant to be then it will be.

I work in software in one of the big three banks, two of our best coders ( vendor resources) have had religiously long hair over the past two years... Steerco and Exco level meetings and engagement included ... I wouldn't worry at all if I were you

Just keep it neat.
I have long hair (and a recent beard) and work in Investment Banking which is more traditional.
IT? Long hair is all good

Just think carefully about your pension fund - maybe get some advice on that. A relative of mine in the UK recently retired and she said that whilst changing jobs a lot had given her some adventures and taken her into areas of work she hadn't initially contemplated it had played havoc with her pension.G-Man wrote: So I'm going for a big interview tomorrow, silly question but is having long hair in IT an issue these days? After 11 years you would usually get the full payout - all your contributions plus all the company contributions plus the accumulated earnings, but check that that is the case and try to find out where the prospective employers invest their pension. DON'T TAKE IT AND SPEND IT! Have it carried forwards to the new company's fund.
Yeah, that's part of the problem.... The company didn't set anything up like that for me, I have one that I pay myself. This is one of the many reasons why I am hunting for another job.X-rated Bob wrote:Just think carefully about your pension fund - maybe get some advice on that.
