Patch cable in loop

Some people apparently use a patch cable in the amp effects loop when going direct to the front of a clean valve amp. It supposedly prevents tone loss. Amp quoted mostly was the Marshall Haze 40 or something. Is their any thruth in this? Could be interesting to know if anyone do this sort of thing. Patch cable simply goes from send to return.

Not going to make a difference, unless there is something wrong with the switches on the sockets (which sometimes get dirty).
