Yeah, Alan and Nicola and me went to play on the guitar. It is really really great. Neville was there and told me that you are in fact selling it. Can't say that I'm not tempted and don't have GAS Smiley
The neck is really fat and comfortable. (much Fatter than my Tokai's neck (I took the goldtop along). The guitar has great sustain and the attack is nice and crisp, like it should be. I didn't find the pickup balance strange, I must say, nor did I notice fret buzz. The pickups did seem lower output than my Bareknuckles. Neck is a Alnico 4 magnet with impedence of about 7.2k (Mule) and the Black Dog in the bridge is Alnico 5 with 8.1k. My guitar is more bassy but also it sounded a tad brighter. I feel the main reason for this is the wiring, you've wired that guitar like a modern Gibson. Lowering the volume control on a pickup rolls the treble off. The difference between that and 50s wiring is very slight, but makes a big difference, especially when the volume controls are not at 100%. One key way to tell is that on a 50s wired guitar, when any of the volumes are set to 0, the guitar has no output, regardless of where the switch is.
There is one or two cosmetic thingies that should be easy enough to fix but I guess Alan will tell you about the small things related to authenticity that he noticed. I don't notice the small things like he does.
All in all a great piece of work. You should be really proud. I cannot wait to hear the other two.
Unfortunately, you didn't get to see it again, but I will try to get the next to you for a bit of a loan when I have sorted the issues with it.
