Pedal power, Do or Don't

Im hoping someone here will be able to help me with my pedal problemo/

i just bought myself an mxr double-shot distortion pedal that runs on 18v this i am running next to my boss gt-10 that uses 9v. i was wondering if it is possible to run both pedals using only the mxr 18v power supply and a daisy chain?

ive heard some discussion that destortion pedals run better when you drop there voltage thus giving the pedal less headroom etc etc. but the thing is that i dont want the boss gt-10 to become an ex-pedal because its all digital.

i know the best option is to add a fuel tank, voodoo lab or some sort of multi power supply, this i will be doing in the future but as until then i need to know if i can daisy chain these 2 pedals until i get to buying a multi power supply

any thoughts?

As far as I know, digital pedals are more susceptible to voltage differences than analogue. I'd play it safe until someone who knows this stuff well can tell you for SURE that it's safe or not.

Am I right that you are suggesting running the GT10 off an 18v supply? If so, DON'T DO IT. I'm no expert at all but you seriously risk frying it. As Psean says, digital thingamies don't like anything other than what they're rated at.

As far as I understand the second part, I think you've got it the wrong way around: a lot of analogue dirt pedals are known to be rated as 9v but run even better at 18v. I don't know if an 18 volter will work properly at 9v.

But is this really an issue? Double adaptor?

No i want to run the 18v adapter through both the gt-10 and the mxr at the same time so thus both will be running 9v

Its just so un meat having all the extra cables and wall warts. I hate unnecessary clutter around my feet.

But i think ill just wait until i can hear from someone that is an expert in the field.

That would only decrease the current ability of the supply, not half the voltage. It would remain 18v.

I would strongly advise you to invest in a proper power supply right now if you are able to.
It pays for itself, as it cleans up your power and protects your pedals. In the long run it will also allow you to add more pedals as you go without having to worry about silly things, like not having enough current available. And it neatens up you setup.

I have a Voodoo Labs ISO-5. It works great, although it won't cope with a massive rig, and has an 18v out as well as several 9v. You may want to look at something similar to that.

It's a similar story to the whole thing of having a R6500 amp and a R10000 guitar (hehe I wish) and linking them with a cheap R70 cable.

EDIT: The GT-10 draws 800ma of current, That is a lot of current needed, so you're going to have to look at a power supply that can put out that much current. The little ISO-5 won't do that.

Also +1. The only thing that might be able to supply it aside from the stock Roland PSB-1U is the GigRig system.

Actually, the Roland supply is 2A, so you could probably supply everything but your 18V pedal off that...

Ahhh bummer, well at least i got the right advise first.

Im looking into getting a Mxr Dc Brick but they a bit pricey, so if anyone knows
Of a good 2nd hand one please drop me a message or something.
