@ Admin:

Of late I've found myself posting on topics that relate to the peformance side; eg. isues relating to backtracks, stagecraft, venue issues, vocal warm-up, etc. IMO they don't really fit into any category (PA & Lighting coming closest?). IMO they are too specific for General Discussion.

Do we perhaps need a category for Performance or Live or something akin to that? Or are these kinds of posts in any event perhaps a bit removed from what GFSA is intended for? I do notice that I don't get much feedback on such posts, so perhaps the interest doesn't justify a separate category? If we, however, feel it is an aspect worth including in GFSA (with a view to the future), perhaps creation of the category may stimulate interest?

    Yup - good one.

Where though? Under Other Music Related?
Yeah, i Like that idea. Have some questions to do with live performance and will have many more in the future ?
But no category to steal all the info from ?

My 2c is maybe change the 'PA and lighting' subject to 'live performance' or something and then under it have 'PA and Lighting' and the new 'Performance'

I dunno. just giving ideas ?

Sounds good. PA and Lighting hasn't drawn my attention as such... maybe Live Performance / Gigging would draw a few of the noobs to that topic too.

I had exactly the same thought yesterday, but wasn't sure because it marginalises the PA guys that will hopefully be flooding in here at some point. Remember, eventually we want everyone on here at some point - even keyboard players and drummers ? Make this a good place to hook up with other musicians as well.

Thinking about it again though, I'm now a bit more inclined to do exactly that. Any more comment before I go ahead?
O.K. Done. Riaan - I'll move a few of your recent topics in there. Let me know if I miss anything.
Another idea besides the Performance cat would be to maybe make a challenge category seperate from general chat. Might draw more attention that way. Just an idea. ?

I've been thinking the same, but along the lines of actually having them in the competition category, but move those to a more prominent position.

I've also been considering a "General" header to lump a few things together at the top namely:
Site Rules (should be the first thing a newbie sees)
                Introductions
                Competitions
                Off Topic lounge
                  Thanks, Alan ?

Will review once you've moved them.

Will refrain from posting about my disaster gig last night!!! No sound from one speaker, so I checked the speakon and - yup - one wire loose. Somehow lost my nerve with all assembled (including anxious manager) watching me with bated breath * cue slow hand-clapping* and spent approx 30 minutes fixing it. First attempting to connect it to the wrong pin :-[, and then being unable to put cover back on as I didn't tighten screw enough :-[!! One of the only times I just came apart compounding one silly error on another as pressure grew. My two spare cables were in my bag both awaiting repair. Once gig got going, cued wrong backtrack twice, as my confidence was entirely shot by then. Settled after a while when audience warmed up to my obvious effort!! Without a doubt the worst night of my relatively short gigging career. Paid the price for procrastinating on PA maintenance. Feel a thread topic coming on! ?

                    You just did! ?

I hate it when a gig starts badly. Like happened to you, it unnerves me and I'm more likely to mess up further.
I'm happy with the suggestions so far ? This forum is growing faster than I can keep up!
