Have my eye on the Orange Terror 500 combo, has 2x12 behind each other..
anyone tried one out or have any comments on it?

want to use it as a monitor and line through the PA any ways.. or are there better (small) combos?

i have a 1200w head and 6x10 cab for the big stuff...
    wow, no one?

Oh weel, think I will take the dive and complain about it later on her! ?
I was looking at getting one a few months ago but it was a bit out of my budget ☹ so I went with a Laney head and cab instead ?.

They had stock at Marshall Music in Woodmead.
I'm in the same boat as Alan. Never seen one!

In principle it looks like a nifty piece of kit, but the proof is in the pudding.... Hearing is believing. Orange are a pretty solid company, and have made some big strides forward lately, so on paper it does look good. I like the idea behind the stacked cones so to speak, but having never tried anything with this approach, I cannot say if it'll work well or cause issues with phasing or specific frequencies that will be enhanced over others? Particularly when placed in a corner or up against a wall as is often the case on a stage... Whilst I understand a lot of the principles behind these things, I am no expert? If you do go ahead and get it, I'd love to hear your feedback as to how it sounds etc?

        Regards
        G!

I've used twin cone speakers in both PA and Hifi - it actually works to improve phase relationships between frequencies. I also used to have a very nice Cerwin Vega sub that had two voice coils on one driver, so you only needed one sub for both channels. I know this is a different idea, but the theory seems sound, so it should work well.
What is your thinking behind the 2x12 combo? If it's a sound issue then cool. If you're looking for something that's easy to carry around I'd look into a 500w head and 1x15 cab (or 2x12 neodynium cab) rather.
Either way the Orange is interesting!
              Yo,

              Cool , thanks guys!
I did the leap so I hope I will have it tomorrow before the Gig to test it out!!
Else its monday.. what I got from the site is that the combo is basicaly the Terror 500 head and a 212 iso cab combined, so I can run another 8 ohm cab with it.. Being a combo makes it so much easier to handle and that is why I picked it over the head and cab config..

I have a bigger (head & cab) rig lurking in the corner of the room.. but for some reason I just got too lazy to haul it ..

Will give feedback soon, thanks guys..

ps.. I also still need to give feedback on my P bass fretless/ jazz pup conversion... oops*
                8 days later
Okay, so it was dropped off yesterday* morning!

Quickly lit the fire outside and ran into the studio to plug this baby in.. mm no power cable and no speakon cable included...Should have ask about that when I placed the order..

oh well, none the less.. plugged it in and left it on standby to warm up ?
Quick celebration beer from the kitchen and back again..

I grabbed the closest bass which was the Warwick Corvette.. man it sounded so good, wife and kids all commented on how good (loud) it sounds.. all in all just from the quick 10min test I was very pleased with it.. it is bigger and heavier than I hoped for but hey.. no worries..

I'm considering selling my Markbass 6x10 rig and then maybe just get a 1x15 Orange extension Cab for when I really need it..

We should play live again soon.. so will update on what it sounds like.. can wait to hear one of the Fender through this! ?
Glad to hear you're liking it....

Just one hopefully helpful note... If you are going from a 6x10" cab, I think you would find a single 15" far too boomy. If I was in your shoes, I would rather be looking at a 2X10", 2x12' or a single 12". Really depends on the sound you are after, but if you are wanting any form of clarity and note definition, avoid the 15"er! ?

I look forward to hearing more of you experience with this setup in a band context. Thanks for sharing so far!

                  Regards
                  G!
Yea, the current cab is a isobaric 12" so it's got 2x12 behind each other.. so was thinking a 15 to add to that.. maybe another ISO 12 cab.. but I will have to test and play around with settings..

I'm not fussy with my sound, I take what I have and make it work in a live setting ?

Edit: the Orange is a 500 terror with a 2x12 Iso cab, and my bigger rig is the 6x10 MB cab and sd1200 head..
SO would like to get and extention cab for the terror only when needed..

                    Cheers
