Opinion on Alto Monitors - TS112A

We need to get a few decent monitors for live usage (and I might also use mine for the odd solo-acoustic story from time to time).

I've never heard of these, but they've come recommended at a decent enough price.

Any opinions? Solid and reliable enough? We will likely never do more than one gig per month, and the rest of the time in our band room we don't need 'em for practice.

I don't know the Alto stuff at all - all I know is they are often compared to Behringer (in fact I've seen them being accused of being "Behringer knockoffs" - which would be ironic.

Proof of the pudding, and all that - what I'd do is arrange a listening test in store, comparing against other speakers in the same or similar price range. Wharfedales, Proel, Laney, etc.

Alto's are clear, which is something you want, at an affordable price. I've only ever tried the passives but I guess the result will still be the same - solid build, perdy, good sound, etc.

But every ear is different so perhaps get a demo

took those for a ride a little while ago, sound is great but
they are seriously under powered, 800W my a$$, not even close.
the Titans are double the volume, but i admit having 6 of them
they dont sound as good as the alto's.

For the price TOMS (they're the distributors) sells them for they're hard to beat.

Funnily enough they have a better/flatter EQ spec than QSCs and a few other way more expensive options.

On a budget and only doing a gig or two a month, not a bad option at all.

They rate them the same as the cheesy car audio stuff - 800W peak , 400W continuous, both of which are fairly meaningless. Probably more like 150/200W RMS. The rest of the specs are also misleading. Reading between the lines of the response specs, they taper of sharply above 19KHz and below 65Hz and have up to 6dB variance between those two. So listening tests will be crucial.

I'm not a big fan - even the 12" models have a hole in the mids. Inexpensive and and lightweight though.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input.

We are looking at around the R3,500 mark, any better suggestions at that sort of price point. We need to get 3 of the things, hence the relatively low individual price.

I have an Alto pa system, powered 12's satellites and a 15" powered sub.
They have a very decent sound for their price range.
Construction seems rugged enough,
only flaw so far is that their little Alto badges tend to pop off, nothing that some bostik can't fix though.
