For all you hair freaks out there I'm not talking about using your beloved's hair conditioner!

I just bought a bunch of rack mounted stuff anf wondered whether it is worhwhile using something like a Furman power conditioner or just getting a long multiplug and using mains as Escom provides it, (usually undewrvoltage and lots of nonse and spikes!).

ANy thoughts out there?
It's essential IMO. The Furmans are nice, but very expensive. I have a Samson PB10, which does the job.

Very few units will fix the undervolt problem, that takes a seriously expensive line interactive unit (starting about R6K last time I looked), but surge protection, smoothing and filtering are the important features.
How many things can you run off the samson Alan? Does it have a current draw 'limit' as such?

I keep on considering getting one for my setup too. What do they normally go for?

      Regards
      G!

10A total, IIRC. So good for anything below big power amps. 8 rear switched outputs, one front unswitched.

Soundz have them for R1 400, and the PS10 (same thing without the lights) for R1K.
I'm with Alan on this one. Have the cheapie without lights and am happy that I got it. I used to have tone problems with my amp every now and then at our practice venue, until I got the Samson. Consistent tone right there. Even if you always play where the power's good, think of the cost of one repair on any of your gear: more.
            Thanks all,

I went for the Samson, but got the one with the dimmable lights.
As a bonus this also includes a small LED on a gooseneck at the back very useful when you want to work at the back in dim light.

By the way Happy Birdie to a great forum the shared knowledge base is great.

Great! Hope it makes you happy. Another benefit of these things is being able to turn your whole rack on or off with one switch on the front of the rack.

Yup. You'll also notice it's unswitched, so you can power your rack down to plug and unplug with the light still on. BTW - I've been meaning to try that light in other USB ports to see if it works - if it does, I'm sure it will occasionally come in useful round the back of a PC too.
