JMI made 3 AC30 models early on....the Normal (for guitar and organ), the Bass (for bass guitar of course, and organ) and the Treble (specifically for lead guitar and to get the tone closer to that of the AC30/4 which had the unstable EF-86 valve). This one predates the Top-boost Models by a few months. Interestingly, JMI subcontracted the Westrex company to make the chassis of the Treble model.
Awesome - from what I read online, it comes down to few small changes in the normal channel?
Alright.. the sound. Well - it sounds good. But, it's unfortunately very noisy. Intermittently it makes a rushing or hissing sound that drowns out anything else playing - even live drums and trumpet. This means that for my purposes (gigging) it's currently dead in the water.
The Top Boost channel is very harsh with my tele, but changing the Bright cap out should sort that out or at least give me some control. The Vibrato channel doesn't work at all. Good news is the Normal channel sounds pretty decent. Firm bass response and takes pedals well. Not very loud - surprisingly so.
