andrewjbryson Did you find that it stays in tune as well? I wouldnt know what the standard nut is like, because mine has a GraphTech Trem Nut on and Wilkenson compensated saddles. I played the BAJA in 2 shows , drove from PE (Plettenberg Bay, Mosselbay) , it was in a Fender Deluxe Bag... Every time I get to the venue, I plug in and check tuning with my BOSS GT8... Absolutely perfectly in tune every-time. After a while I start feeling silly checking the tuning because it is not neccasary. What a luxury! Anyway, if you get your BAJA , first mod : Graph Tech Trem Nut....
themanthatwalks the one in the store was stil in tune, if that means anything. There is nothing worse than a guitar that cant stay in tune. What diff did the mod make?
AlanRatcliffe I was the one that did the mod. The guitar stayed in tune pretty well before (no trem and vintage-style slotted tuners), but I take no chances and fitted the Trem Nut as well as unhooking the strings from the string trees. The latter I thought I might not get away with and have to fit some Graph Tech trees, but there were no problems at all. The "acoustic" thing: that Baja is one of the two most "acoustic" sounding guitars I have ever owned (the other being a LP Special copy with a 1-piece Honduran mahogany body, two piece HM neck, ebony board and TonePros bridge and tailpiece). So much so, that I decided it was the one I was going to buy before I plugged it in... Andrew you using the .011s I sent it with, or have you gone lighter?
andrewjbryson yeah Alan, in your honour I have decided to stick to the the power slinky's (purple pack i think) I might try lighter eventually. But it plays, sounds and feels so good, cant imagine it better .... Who knows? Ive got super slinky's on my Strat so I guess I have kinda seperated them Strat (lead) / Tele (rhythm). Ive been spending alot of time on harmony-central forum and in every single Tele thread the BAJA gets mentioned and praised...
AlanRatcliffe Also called string retainers or butterflies - the little things that the first two strings go under on the headstock. They make sure that the strings wind on the posts properly and also keep them at a good angle over the nut.
Spyke I can vouch for the Graph Tech trem nuts, I fitted one to my Squier and to my Yamaha acoustic, both hold their tune very well, even through traveling.
