Got one last week, running XBMC on it too. Im pondering getting another one to put in a stomp box as a looper.

I was expecting the usual Linux battle to get things working, but the most complex part was adding the password fr my wifi network. Even have the remote control app on my tablet to control it with
Yeh really easy to setup. Thought about using it to do some audio processing too, would need a USB audio interface though for input, it is just about small enough to fit in a stomp pedal.

Really like the fact that I can use my TV remote to control it through the HDMI cable, got remote controls coming out my ears so that's a real bonus for me.

Unfortunately my TV is new enough for HDMI but not new enough to support CEC, so no remote control via TV remote. But that's about the only downside so far, except that it can't run a portable hard drive directly.

I sketched up a quick 3d model of how the Pi and a USB audio interface would fit into a biggish stomp box (close to a 125b or Big Muff box), hopefully the drawing comes out on this post...
where can you buy one in SA ?
I've got a Pi ready and waiting for raspbmc, but my AV receiver recently packed up, so I've not had a chance to really play with it yet. This talk about guitar applications has piqued my interest though...
I'm dying to get my hands on one. Would make a nice toy in conjunction with arduino.
Although, at the moment, I would love to get one in order to build a "squeezebox", seeing as Logitech stopped their squeezebox line ☹

              I've found the exact opposite.

I developed on NetBSD almost exclusively for 9 years, Linux is an absolute picnic.
No haha I meant that I have found linux is usually a breeze to get things up and going.

Some distros are friendlier than others.

Linux is an open source Unix, and I adhere to the old maxim that Unix and LSD were both developed at the same university and this is no coincidence.

Fair enough. To be specific, ipad expecting a nightmare configuring my (unknown chipset) cheaply wireless dongle- wireless chipset support has been something that caused me untold frustration with Ubuntu on my Dell laptop. It's also been probably three or four years since I messed around with a Linux box, so the thought of sshing in to a headless box (which raspbmc essentially is because it boots straight to the ten foot interface) and editing cnfig files n nano wasn't my idea of a simple setup.

But it all worked first time round. I'm just busy trying to get CUPS configured so I can use. It as an airprint/cloud print server too, but it seems like raspbmc needs some work as far as CUPS compatibility goes

I got mine from RS, but via the 'business' site locally, when I was ordering some stomp box cases recently. RS are shipping PIs in pink hard case that I cut some slots in and works perfectly as an enclosure

Woohoo! There is now an audio card that interfaces with the Pi's GPIO pins, so it leaves the USB ports free, and communicates at high speed directly with the CPU. This should mean my looper idea gets much simpler to build(but a bit more expensive).

I reckon about R1000 in parts will get you a PC in a stompbox that can handle all sorts of things- the Raspberry Pi foundation has recently demonstrated FFT using the GPU so things like harmonising and pitch shifting are theoretically possible with hardware acceleration.
I have one and it's great. Never having any experience whatsoever with Linux, it did take me some time to set up. It's a great little device, but could definitely use some more CPU power. I find I have to stick to the default Confluence skin, and the Aeon Nox one which I consider to be the best really lags quite a bit when scrolling menus.

You can pick them up for a bargain at bidorbuy from Mantech, but it does not appear that they currently have stock.

Love my pi , there's millions of things you can do with them , and currently setting up my home automation , media center and it remote system quiet successfully on it (including my retro gaming system) , they easy to use if you know know your way around Linux and aren't afraid of a bit of hacking , i also have the pcduino but am very disappointed in it , it has more grunt but just almost feels like it's missing some flair

So the reason I haven't posted over in the FX forum all year is because I've working on this-

An infrared camera based on a Raspberry Pi. Got it mostly up and running smoothly now, and it has taken some photos I'm pretty happy with:

More details on the process at the project blog here.

Now to get back to that looper/puredata fx pedal...
That is really cool! I wanna play with the PI or Beagle bone black or one of these mini pc things! Don't have the spare time for it right now though... but in time ?
