I bought this amp about a year ago. I am a fan of the FUSE software and the versatility that it gives me. The Super Champ has a clean channel which is full valve and then utilises 16 "voiced" channels which is more of a hybrid system. the 16 preloaded voicing are for the most part pretty good but ultimately its the clean channel that is vintage Fender. When i bought it i sat for a couple of hours playing thru this and a blues junior and decided on the X2 from a versatility point of view. I have not fully tweakedall the voiced channels as yet buts it very cool to hook it up to my laptop and much about ...there is not much one cant do with this amp and its portability and ability makes it a keeper. With that in mind i decided to mod it a bit and decided on the following:

1. cover the side panels with red covering , inspiration from the FSR blues juniors recently launched.
2. REplace the stock valves with some top quality
3. and funally (pun, thus far) replace the stock speaker with a Jensen electric lightning - not done this yet , hope to receive speaker next week)

So far so good , the new valves certainly increase the clarity somewhat (or it it my imagination ? )

First pic , the inspiration

3 pics of my "New" super champ.

Looking forward to the replacement speaker as i beleive that will give this amp the extra presence it needs. Yip , i am spening loads of cash on this amp but its a keeper so cant over capitlise on it ...thats what i am telling the missus anyway
    looking good ICM!
Though i have to ask, why not just get an extension cabinet built instead?
      Looks great!

I always find the stock Fender valves to be a bit "meh". They also have a tendency to underbias them to get them to last longer.

I've never heard an Electric Lightning, so I hope you'll report back on what it is like when you've fitted it and given it a try.
Looking good there ICM .....Looks like you are a Chip Foose fan as well doing some hot rodin' of yer own

Hi, I've got an old Fender 2 x 15" speaker cab that need some fixing. Has a bit of wood damage and requires need of new black upholstery/covering. Where can I get this done for best result ?
Also can we still get the original Fender speaker silver woven speaker cloth somewere local or do I need to import this myself ?

take it to JP le roux ( he did the job in this thread for icecream man and work for me too) his details are listed on the forum or pm and i will send you his number ,
Thanks Keira, will get hold of JPL. Performing anywhere soon in JHB ?
                Thanks guys...

As Keira mentioned , JP did the work, the quality of which surpasses that of the Fender mexican plant that built this thing i have to say. The work is top class.

@ Norman - at some point i will get a cab for this ...just have to see where the future of my playing is going to take me...right now the combo is perfect.

@ Alan - Yip , unfortunately Fender use cheap ass valves across their lower priced ranges as standard. i guess when building to a price point this is bound to happen. at first i thought my ears were playing tricks on me but the more i play the more discernable the difference is. The difference in clarity is astounding, even though the improvement may actually be small. ( if that makes sense) . I aint an expert on speakers but will certainly feed back. the research i did was extensive and it was between the Jensen and the rajun cajun but availabilty of the rajun cajun was nil (when i pulled the trigger anyway).
Post office stirke is what is keeping me from the new speaker :?....grrrr ..hoping for the weekend though as i have some jamming plans and would be lekker with the new speaker.
Oooooh ja, that's nice. Very nice. :applause:
                    ICM

JP's speaker prices are quite keen last time I looked and he normally carries stock

Had the speaker in for a week now ...not broken in at all yet however thus far

the speaker is certainly well constructed, made in Italy. At first I was not overwhelmed by it to be honest , but after some tweaking with the FUSE I am happy as the proverbial pig in poo. pity we don't get replacement speakers cost effectively in ZA.

adds about 2kilos to the weight of the amp as this is very "robust" in comparison to the stocker.

                      Def a worthwhile mod.

don't laugh too loud at me ? but I put some casters on my amp which has made a huge difference in moving it around my house which is multiple levels.
