Hey guys! Any Tool fans here? Anyone know when the new album will be released?

Norman86 wrote anywho, how does one count a 5/4 rhythm? or 7/8 for that matter?

A 5/4 rhythm you would count one two three four five, one two three four five...
A 7/8 thythm you would count one two three four five six seven, one two three four five six seven...
?

This particular song is perhaps not the easiest one to count the time signature out but maybe you should try something much simpler. Take Sting's "I was brought to me senses". It is a very simple 7/8 time signature. Just go past the first 1:40 until the percussion kicks in and try to count it out. You'll pick it up very quickly.

Lateralus has a chorus that runs 9/8 8/8 7/8. And the final movement of the song has the drums in a stretched polyrythm in a different signature to the bass and vocals. It's uncomfortable until it all unifies for the final bars. Incredible incredible track.

Oh, and the verse's syllables follow an ascending and descending Fibonacci sequence. Listen to is asap.

Hello ?

Cleric wrote stretched polyrythm

I'd be very interested to know what you're referring to here? I have never heard that term used before.

Cleric

Not really the correct term, but what I mean is how the polyrythm of the drumming is not only in a different signature, but also at a different bpm to the guitar/bass vocal timing. It's quite dissonant, but when they come together, man, what an awesome moment.

Hello ?

Hahaha! Touché

Isis

Listening to 10 000 Days right now ? Danny Carey is a big part of the band,s vibe imo. The guy is a monstrous drummer. Not really flahy but a lot of very subtle wicked stuff going on in his drumming.

Crafty

Huge Keenan fan this side. Although puscifer had a crapload of potential. If only they focused a little more attention on the recording process. Both V is for Vagina, and c is for(insert.... ) has to be the worst album recordings of all time. Yet it contains some serious awesome songs.
If you do not know them, youtube search for:
Vagina Mine
Humbling River
Momma sed

Conditions of my parole, was rerecorded a little better, but still find plenty of white noise where there should be none.

Cleric

The version of Momma Said on C Is For... is exceptional. And I love The Rapture. Some moments of excellence on most of the Puscifer albums.

But dammit, I was really disappointed by the latest, Donkey Punch The Night. Just a lack of content.

G-Man

I used to be a huge tool fan, still have all their albums that I physically bought etc... I don't know though, their music just doesn't move me like it used to. Maybe I listened to it too much but their last album lacked something. And that put me off them quite a bit, sadly.

I think that if they have all moved on musically they should maybe just not worry about making more 10 000 Days like albums. But that's just my taste these days.

DrGonzo

Huge Fan here, cant wait for the album.

Cleric wrote Massive fan here. General opinion in the community is that it's either Oct/Nov this year, or Q1 2014. All I know is that I have a seperate bank account with money saved for my flight and concert ticket to see them perform as soon as they tour it. Same for NIN.

Dude What a fantastical idea. I think I am gonna do the same thing, all it takes is a but of initiative and a couple hundred buck a month that you would usually piss away on bad food and hangovers. One thing i know for sure is they aint gonna make a stop in southern africa! (well I dont know that for sure, but i think it is safe to assume, they only bring out uber commercial bands to SA really)

I saw them live in 2006 in Washington, USA for their 10000 days tour and I can say with so much certainty that it is the best thing I have ever seen with my eyes and heard with my ears! its an audiovisual orgasm i tell you! 8) ?

I've heard that they're incredible live. Will let you know if I hear anything concrete. I know they're touring Aus at the moment, but I'm in the midst of studying for CFA3, so had to give it a skip. But UK/US at the end of the year for sure.
