Well done Clint.

Cool metalcore track! Could've sounded better if you frilled it up with some chickin' pickin' and banjo rolls, but what do I know? Except Justin Bieber's more than a musician he's an icon!
Oh and more importantly well done on reaching no 1! Congrats!

Its a decent Production.

This reminds me of practising above the Ref in Durban technikon. There was this awful low E droning thing going on so we all looked at Luke ( bass) who stopped with a shrug.
The low E appeared to be emanating from the vents in the drywall near the ceiling, which halted abruptly, followed by some dude hollering into an octave pedal.
We had a small argument through the vents, where Luke said something like "ill do a paradoodle on your nose mate".
I asked who the hell are you guys and the guy yelled into his octave pedal "WE ARE CANKEROUS!" , then smashed up a blackboard and started feeding the bits through the vent slots.
I think we called it a day and went to the pub, or something like that.
Much later I met the (ex) octave-yeller.
Tiny little nervous bald man with thick glasses.

Not bad. I like it. Always good to have something to headbang to.

I don't see how the amount of posts has anything to do with being able to post in here or not. If this forum is to grow, then so should the rules. I'm a member on much bigger international forums and they have no problem with me posting my work. And seeing as this was an international release and hit number 1 on the USA and UK rock charts, i think a little lee way is in order here. What must people like me do in this case? Not share news like this? - That doesn't chase people away from this forum at all.......NOT!
I didn't post this to start a fight. I just thought some people would be inspired or excited to see good things happening to people that are a part of the SA music industry. If my posts offend members here, then ill gladly stick to more mature audiences on other forums.
@Vic thanks for listening anyway man. I just do what the genre calls for. If it didn't move people it wouldn't of topped charts. But to each his own. Some music doesn't move me either. Working as a producer, your main job is to make a song work for the environment its about to be released in. For example, if this kinda music was mixed in a jazz or rock style it just wouldn't work.
@BMU I didn't mix the vocals, just helped with editing. P.S. Sublime and this band cant be compared, each genre or even song has its own needs.
@free2rhyme Your point is 100% true. The hostility in here is ridiculous. The only way forward for this forum is to be more open and supportive. Amount of posts is just a insignificant number on the internet. Thats like Michael BRAUER, Chris LORD-ALGE or Eddie Kramer posting on here and being told they cant because they haven't posted enough, if that isn't point enough then its time for me to leave this forum. I hope i don't have to though.
@ Thanks Conrad, much appreciated.
@Studmissile and Max Thanks dude ?
@Wormwood. HAHA, funny story!
@Joe Moore. Thanks for giving it a listen anyway ? Music is music, once you understand what a genre is all about its not so bad. Being a producer is all about being fearless of any genre in my opinion. The Album was number 1 for the iTunes Rock charts in the UK and USA
@Coynegfsa True that ? thanks!

"P.S. Sublime and this band cant be compared, each genre or even song has its own needs."
Sublime? Who is Sublime? I was talking about Revocation. Re-read.
You asked for opinions, you got some.
OneDayClint
@BMU. I wasn't aware of a band called 'Revocation' sorry man. Sublime is also a band so mistakes can happen. Hence your opinion only make sense now ?
BMU
What? Isn't there a Revocation CD on every motel room bedstand? There should be; everyone needs Revocation!
Hehe. ?

Clint....you are more than welcome.....plus you're more than welcome on this forum and I would personally like to see and hear you here. However be just a bit more diplomatic when referring to the "audience" as being " immature and hostile "....I promise you that's not the case. There are many mature free thinkers here with
maaany years' experience in the music industry. I am also part of a classical music forum where a new member has to have at least 5 or more posts before he/she can post
unmoderated.....LOL !

My social module just made smoke. It's like that time I was washing the dishes and 2 ppl entered the room, never spoke but both reported to me how upset they were with the other person because of what happened in the kitchen. I was just thinking about the dishes. ?

@ BMU HAHA ? ill totally check em out now. Better be good ? HAHA

@ Vic. Thanks man. Just to be clear, i never called it a immature audience. i stated a 'more mature' audience ? Gearsluts and UMF are easily some of the biggest forums on the net and they don't have such rules. Just saying ? I got more than 5 posts on here, why does this forum have higher demands if you don't mind me asking? I still think a open community with less silly rules would be a better idea.
@ Conrad ? haha, love the analogy man!

No prob Clint...thanks for clearing it up. My bad then....re. posting on the classical music forum....you need at least 5 posts to post
unmoderated...that means the moderators check each of your posts before it is published. Sometimes this may take up to 3 days for a single post to be
visible to the public.
Each forum, large or small would have its own rules....the so-called house rules...which one should respect at all times. For example, here, topics such as religion and politics and bad mouthing competitors, etc. are taboos.....to be honest I did not know about the minimum number of posts which would give you license to post your own vid/music clips (if I understood it correctly).
But be as it may...welcome and stay tuned ! ?

OneDayClint, I am personally stoked to have such an insightful member to the forum.
I don't think what has been said must be taken too personally. The reason the site, to my understanding, implements such 'strict' rules is to create a decent culture of good musicianship. Its true that some of the bigger sites have no rules, but with no rules comes no governance, and no governance means loads of bad mouthing and just being ass's to each other. This forum is awesome because everyone respects each other, no one has a bad thing to say about another, unless something is being asked to be criticized/critiqued. You won't find many forums around where there is such an awesome culture. We have moderators that work around the clock to make sure things run smoothly.
So again, to return to the rules, they are there to protect the site from those that cannot abide by the rules. Alan can tell you that there have been a good few members he had to ban. In terms of the no-posting rule, it's cause this site does get a lot of spammers who join quickly, post, and leave. We don't want that here, we want to know what you about, and learn from you, and vice versa.
So having said that all. Welcome to this forum. It is a great place. And I hope we can all learn from each other. Oh, and congrats on your achievement, it seriously is cool that you got to work on such high calibre material. Will look outstanding on your CV.
OneDayClint
@Vic - Thanks man. Your a legend.
@Adrian - Thanks man, i hope i can share as much information as i can to anybody who wants to know what i do. I totally understand your point man, im just saying some rules are silly like the amount of posts. Bad mouthing (trolling) allows admins to enforce rules. But as i mentioned before. If a major famous producer posted a clip, they would tell him to wait his turn is just stupid. 'a decent culture of good musicianship' would be people posting their work getting feedback.thoughts and share any info on the subject. PERIOD.
But enough of the old news. Thanks for the support man, I really appreciate it. I hope to be giving advice and asking questions more in the 'clips for review' section.

Hey Clint... not my kind of music, but kudos to you.
One thing though, I felt the bass could have been louder in the mix, often a problem when you have added/played an instrument and you wonder if you are making it too loud or not. You know how it is, "Shall I push it another 2db? Naah, the guys might think that I'm trying to upstage them. Yeah, but it does need more balls on the bottom end. Oh well, lets send it on to them and see what they think." ?
Regarding, the posting crit... ignore the comments, sometimes people here can get anal about the rules, but on the whole most members are friendly enough and there are people here who are musically astute. I look forward to your input and suggest that you might also learn a thing or two here. As a producer maybe you could listen to the weekly challenges and pass a a crit on the entries.

A few points, some already made, but rounded-up and corralled here for clarification:
I hate having rules as much as your average musician (and I am a very average musician ?), in fact, this forum started with one single rule: "be nice". Unfortunately this does not work as there are always those who feel compelled to break whatever rules there are. There are also legal implications to some things and we have to protect ourselves and the forum. There are also those who will split hairs based on the letter of the law rather than the spirit, which necessitates further defining of the rules.
Rule 8 is there to protect the forum against the fly-by-night posters who post to only to promote YouTube traffic. Particularly those based off-shore. As with most rules, it is open to interpretation by the mods and myself to allow the mods and admins the ability to sort the wheat from the chaff at our discretion with a concrete rule we can point to when we are threshing out the abusers. As your OP still stands, you can be assured we judged it as wheat, so quite frankly there is no reason to be complaining about the rules in this case as they have not been applied.
Bob is right - those that post frequently and take part in other discussion do get more response to video and audio clips than those who only post occasionally. It has nothing to do with the rules. This is a community, and responds as such - those that are active members of any community will always get more response from it when they throw something into the mix than those who don't. A big part of it is due to those who have abused the system in the past (before I created the rule), posting videos in their first few posts and then not responding to comment or taking any further interest in the forum.

Alan hits the nail on the head here. I don't think you were being accused of violating the rules or of being a tool or anything. Bob simply responded to your veiled accusation towards GFSA for not offering more response. I think it is a perfectly good explanation. You are well within your rights to post a clip for review and you are more than welcome to do so. Unfortunately though, there are no rules that can force people to listen to it. The best way to be sure that people will listen to it is by being part of the community. And, if you accuse GFSA of ignoring you, at least be thankful that you got an explanation as to why. Other might be ignored and never even know why.

@PeteM Thanks so much for the answer. I agree with the bass, To be honest ive never heard a bass heavier mix in my life. It kinda works for their stuff though to be honest. I did all the bass work but didn't decide on the level as it was mixed in the UK. Ill definitely be listening to the weekly challenges then ? thanks for understanding.
@Alan. I understand the rule, but I've been on the forum for 2 years, surely that excludes me from the fly-by-night crowd? I've been buying and selling stuff in the classifieds and made a few friends on this forum as well. As far as me complaining about the rules, it was more about the 'amount of posts' idea. It should be changed to amount of posts or time spent as a member or even an exception to allow maybe a very busy well know producer to post here even if its once a year. Knowledge is knowledge and we are all here to learn I'm sure. Anyways, lets put this to rest. The thread is still going and points have been made. ill be contributing more to other posts from now on to earn my keep. If anybody has any questions or even just wants to come hang at the studio, message me. Thanks ya'll! ?
@deefstes I think have misunderstood (probably from my lack of clarity on the matter) my post stating "Thanks for giving it a listen though, its more than most people would do." but it wasn't meant to target GFSA. It was a comment on the general South African Music Industry and it still being very closed off to heavier styles of music. No matter what genre you do, there will always be chart to top, meaning globally people listen to everything. Hence awards are only given/noted for main stream genres such as Rock, Rap, RnB etc. That's what "its more than most people would do" meant. Hope that clears it up a little.
On a side note. I appreciate the people that gave the track a listen despite it not being 'your cup of tea.' If you did like it, they released another 3 music videos off the album on youtube.
Lastly, a music community that supports all music and isn't genre specific, is a community I will gladly be apart of any day. So giving this song a listen shows the forum taking steps forward rather than back ? GFSA Rocks!
