well that was the idea, to get people thinking about stuff.

i use to be very concerned about tone woods, spending lots of money on the stuff while i was still learning to work with wood and wasting it all. until i built a guitar out of scrap pine and oak. and the guitar sounded great. i think the main reason people stick to the basic stuff, is because it has been tried and tested, its easy woods to work with and they can give constant results.
but ultimately a great guitar comes down to very good construction. combine that with the perfect piece of wood(being stable and not bending, have no dead spots in the wood, and choosing something that will work for the weight of the body) and you got a winner.
