Clapton bought the Stratocaster® he affectionately nicknamed “Brownie” secondhand at Sound City on London on May 7, 1967, a few days before Cream flew to New York to record their second album, Disraeli Gears. It was a 1956 Stratocaster® with a two-colored sunburst finish and a well-worn maple neck and fingerboard.
You don't need to go to London or travel back to 1967, however. The limited edition Fender Custom Shop Eric Clapton “Brownie” Stratocaster® will be available for pre-order March 21.
