www.stringsandbeyond.com are currently selling 12 packs of ernie ball for $44 (R396).
Factor in shipping pf $25, and its $70 altogether (630).
add your 14% vat for when they land (R88.2), and they come to R720 odd.
Or, R60 per pack.
I walked into my local Bothners to buy some strings today, was told the strings (ernie balls and rotosounds) are R70 a pack, but he will give them to me for R60...which is what Im always told, even last year, always has been R60, not sure why its so much more in JHB, i mean, even the retail is R70 before discount.
I asked for 3 packs and then realised I only had R150 in my wallet, upon mentioning this I was given the strings at R50 each and walked out with all 3. I have only ever bought strings and cables and picks from this shop, so im not a huge customer (guitars and amps I only ever buy secondhand...)

Also feel free to call me callous, but I like the fact that I've worked my way up to a higher discount structure than Joe Shmoe who buys a set of strings a year, that I have such a good relationship with stores that they give me the best possible discount without me needing to push. In a way, I feel it is my reward for my thirty years of patronage (and hundreds of thousands of rands worth of business).
I fully agree that you are entitled to more of a discount and its a relationship thing which is fine, but if a stranger walks into a shop and is told the strings are R70 but I'll give them to you at R60, then why not advertise at R60 and sell at R60 and give loyal customers the further discount to R50?
Or like if I phone about a headphone amp to a different music shop they say its R800 but i can give it to you for R650. Why not advertise and sell at R650 and give your loyal customers R550?
