and why should i wait for a Sale, just to get the true price of an item?
If you're willing to buy in bulk, you don't have to wait. Like any business, they are out to make a profit, and making a profit is all about numbers. If they can move more strings at a lower price, they will do it gladly.
Of course they don't advertise their absolute minimum price as there are many who are perfectly content to pay full retail or are happy with a R5 discount - and they are a business and business exists to make money. But the real musos and serious collectors know to push for the lowest possible price (as they should - it's part of
their business). Like buying from a stall in a bazaar in Egypt, if you pay the asking price, it is on you, not the seller.
Also feel free to call me callous, but I
like the fact that I've worked my way up to a higher discount structure than Joe Shmoe who buys a set of strings a year, that I have such a good relationship with stores that they give me the best possible discount without me needing to push. In a way, I feel it is my reward for my thirty years of patronage (and hundreds of thousands of rands worth of business).
Things
are changing though... and who knows if it is for the betterment of the industry as a whole? Once it reaches the point where everyone gets the same price, loyalty goes out the window.
Everything then comes down to the lowest possible price and the highest number of units moved. Next the smaller stores can't compete and you end up with only the big chains who only carry specific brands that they can move high numbers of (as that's the only way to make a profit) staffed entirely with kids who know nothing (and don't know they know nothing), whose sole purpose is to sell you something, regardless of whether it suits your needs, regardless of whether you need it or not.
