Hi there,
I have read that when playing bass through a guitar amp it is bad because the speaker cannot handle the lower frequencies, but if the speaker is replaced with a PA speaker then would I be able to play through that amp to my hearts content without worrying damaging the amp? I.e not a case of "If you play softly it will be ok, but over time it will damage it" but rather it being the equivalent of having a bass amp in terms of durability and being able to handle whats being thrown at it? It is a solid state amp we are talking about...
Thanks in advance for the replies

When I started playing, I played bass through a friends Samick SS guitar amp wired to a different speaker (bass or PA - not sure but it looked like a PA speaker). I probably played it for a year or two with no noticeable problems except that it sounded crap (very possibly due to me not knowing how to eq it). It then got struck by lightning so I can't really comment on longterm durability.

Yeah - it'll live. Might not sound wonderful and won't be all that loud (comparatively), but it'll work.
Guitar speakers can actually take a lot of punishment too - you'd be surprised. My Twin is actually a damn awesome bass amp - if you like slightly crunchy valve bass amps... I do! Bonus is it helped me break in the new speakers very quickly. ?
