Thanks to the advice of some of the folks here ( perhaps Singemonkey adn Rienhard?) i bought mice elf a Laney cub 12.
Really a cool little amp, specially the tube combo they have in there, its pretty much exactly the distortion i wanted ( without a big muff ofc).

after 2 days of mostly clean jamming on the 1w channel and a couple of "standing on my balcony with it cranked" it started to vary in volume, sort of like when the amp hasn't warmed up yet, only after 15 minutes, and a strange static sound under each clean note ( not distortion, this was almost separate from the note itself and under it).

the dude took a listen and organised that ( after some prompting) i collect another one in somerset west at no charge.

the amp i originally bought was very old stock, the screws were actually a bit rusted and on the way home while my wife drove, when i had the amp on my lap i noticed one of the power tubes was skew in its socket, pins showing ( though not more than 1.7mm ).

a) it pays to check the amp out before you buy it and
b) paul bothners rocks.

thank you for listening, go do something productive now. ?

after some confusion, where they sent it to N1 city while i went to pick it up at Somerset west, it eventually arrived back today

I seriously recommend this amp to anyone starting out with valve amps and doesn't have the 10 grand for a marshall / fender.
its got a serious warm bluesy tone and can do Metalica Kill em all era ( search and destroy sounds pretty good)

The overall sound beats the hell out of the Peavy classic 50 is had before, to my ears and apparently there are some good Mods that can improve its sound quite a bit, done buy guys on this forum.

I cannot wait to get back to band practice
Congrats on the new amp! I am glad you are digging it ?
