I am driving down to Cape Town on Holiday and would love some suggestions for music to buy for the trip. Preferably artists that I am not that familiar with but if their is a latest album that you enjoy then please suggest it. I'll listen to anything as long as it is melodic and nit played regularly on RSG ?
Not a great fan of compilations but open to suggestions if it is an amazing album. So from folk to country(rock) tojazz to blues to rock (not really into too much Metal) to acoustic let me know. Can be instrumental as well. I will listen on itunes first before I buy.
Waiting in anticipation...

If you enjoy eccentricity and eclecticism then get some Incredible String Band - the early albums! If you want that eclecticism with more of a rocking edge then get Mike Heron's (one half of the classic ISB line up) first solo album Smiling Men With Bad Reputations.
Americana? Tim O'Brien (but his discs are hard to get locally), Gillian Welch. Little Feat? Head directly for their live album Waiting For Columbus. If you want a sort of stripped down Americana then if you dig around Look & Listen you might find some Terry Lee Hale in the bargain bins. Squonk picked up a copy of his Blue Room album at some ridiculous price, and Tornado Alley is another good 'un. Or look out for his "best of" Tender Loving Hell.

Thx Bob. I forgot to mention that I will probably download most from iTunes (Local and USA) if that helps at all....
( By the way, if you like Tim O'Brien XRB and Squonk, you may enjoy Kelly Joe Phelps as well - ordered a few of his Cd's a year ago and still enjoying them. Will maybe post a YT clip )

Maybe some EVH (OU812, 1984 etc.), Whitesnake (Slip of the tongue), Mr. Big & Journey...sorry, i'm still stuck in the heyday of glam bands ?
Ray
Why dont you get Jorma Kaukonen - Blue Country Heart. Mumford and Sons - Babel.

I drive quite a lot for work so I'm always looking for good "driving music" (sometimes awesome bands i.e. Tool, just don't translate nicely into enjoying them while you drive). I quite like Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning) and Into It Over It. They are both acoustic folk/punkish I guess.

Cool, thx .
Ok, so far we have Glam Rock from a bygone era and more easy listening type music. Anything else?
Downloaded Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamasa, Sonny Lendreth so far (I have from these artists but needed at least onemore ?)

If you like gypsy jazz in django style get some " jimmy rosenberg" its wickedly fast jaw dropping guitar , won't fall asleep behind the wheel to that , he's dutch unless i'm mistaken , and been heralded as the only one to take over django's style succesfully , mind blowing player and like django he's got a smoking / drinking / bad boy rep ? but fabulous talent and young too

Gangs of Ballet's EP has been in the car's CD player permanently for about a month

Discovered this beautiful talented soul recently Cary Ann Hearst. Her album lions and lambs is literally one of my top favorite albums of all time! Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

+1 Still my all time best driving CD. Had to replace my copy last year.
If you like blues then try Seasick Steve's latest album "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" or
Dan Patlansky's new album "20 Stones" - both permanently in my CD Changer.

I drove from CT to JHB once listening to Radar Love through the night.
It really works.
Was in 1981 though ...

Scott and O'Brien work together from time to time, but I wasn't aware of any actual recordings. Both of them are marvellous musicians.
