New Bank Notes

New bank notes featuring an image of former president Nelson Mandela are expected 2 start circulating 2day. The old bank notes will be illegal. I've been assigned with the difficult task of collecting the old notes.I don't like this job but it's a community service, for a crime I committed. PM me and I will let you know where to deliver them or for a reasonable fee, I will pick them up from you.

I personally liked the old R50 Notes because it had an oil refinery on the back which made me feel at home because I'm a chemical engineer. So I don't like the new notes either...

If I'm correct they're only temporary though.

I got given six R100 notes yesterday when a guy came to buy a fish Tank from me. It was the first I'd actually seen one, having only heard about them, so it kind of took me by surprise.

Thanksfully, a good look around them, and I could see that they were legit!

As for the looks, they do look like 'man'(dela)opoly money, but I at least like the R100.

Once they've been circulating a while though, all these bright colourful notes will actually not look so vibrant!

makepeace wrote i for one think they are alright. a lot of other countries in the world's currencies have people's pips on them. and i'd go as far as to say we probably have one of the world's better people to put on a note. they look pretty cool in person - those pics don't do them justice at all.. they're quite a bit brighter and more interesting than the old stock.

Personally I am sick of everything in this country being about Mandela... even the adds on this forum are about him now. No, I don't wanna buy a freaking Nelson Mandela Kruger Rand!

Let's just go ahead and rename our country Republic of Nelson Mandela, with our capital city being O R Tambo.

I kinda agree. Its getting a bit old. I mean, surely this country has more to offer than just Mandela as an icon... Just saying.

Seeing as the Parlotones have appeared on notebooks, KFC and wine bottles, I am surprised they didn't make one of the bank notes.

I think they need to do a series of banknotes for fallen musos:

James Phillips, Lucky Dube, Bles Bridges, Worsie Visser, Johannes Kerkorrel, Syd Kitchen etc.

Keep things interesting, maybe do a limited edition of our Rugby World Cup Winners, Gold medal olympians ?

change is never easy folks. in fact, that's why they invented paper money in the first place. true story.

i like the new notes - permanent or not. i think the idea behind them is to commemorate the 50th year since mandela's first incarceration. now there's a number, eh?

Money is money.
So long as they're accepted as legal tender, I'm happy.

I actually quite like the idea of Nelson being on the notes.
I tend to suspend judgement when it comes to change.
I find what I don't like initially is often just because it's different.

Hell ... I thought a telecaster was a pretty funny looking guitar after only being exposed to strats.
Now I love the shape.
