Leon Economides , David Blood and other rock scientists present some killer shows on that station. Any night from 9 pm onwards is best imo... 8)
Well if they're playing what's commonly referred to as "classic rock" then all they're doing is playing now what was vital and novel and happening 30 years ago. You don't have to be much of a scientist to do that.
How about a Radio Station that played Richard Thompson 24 hours a day, would you dig that? ?
No. A bit would be nice, but there's a lot more to musical life.
Music isn't about "novel and happening", it's either cool or it isn't, and for guitarists classic rock from 30 years is cool.
Well that's making an assumption about what a "guitarist" is or isn't or what guitarists listen to or don't.
The musical world has moved on since the 80s and there's always worth while music to discover. I've heard plenty of what is now "classic" rock, and did that 30 and more years ago (at which time it was new and nobody had dreamed up the marketing term "classic rock"). So what I like is columns or radio shows that help me along those lines. At present, in this country, that seems to amount to Richard Haslop (who, TBH, does spend time looking back - a recent column presented Kraftwerk to us) - or I need to tune my radio elsewhere to something that doesn't deal with golden oldies or modern pop.
Oddly enough, I'm yearning in a way for a situation like the 80s where you had Chris Prior playing what was then new and exciting on the radio and some excellent print music columns, notably the M&G.
