I'm laughing my head off, not being a fan of their type of music and I dislike the singer's vocals but - What exactly have these guys done to provoke these feelings? I am hoping for some interesting replies!!

Parlotones combine the wrist-slitting depression of Coldplay with the shrill nasal vibrato vocals of The Killers. And they wear eye-liner.

@Chabenda - they are making money hand over fist by selling themselves as promotional tools to whichever corporation can afford them, plus they are making catchy pop music which appeals to the masses rather than the critics. Some folks don't like that ?
And folks need to hate somebody to be happy it seems. For me it's that little Bieber shit, for others it's the Parlotones.

I'd laugh if one of the Parlotones was a member here secretly.

They were here Friday night, watched them, got extremely bored personally. They were good at what they do I guess, and the pop/old people with a general taste in music digged 'em.

But good luck to them.

I've often thought exactly that too. After all, they are laughing all the way to the bank. Personally I don't care if they are making money from something that doesn't appeal to me. Why the hell not? In the same situation, I'd happily do the same and invest the money in setting myself up with my own studio and then spend the rest of my life doing whatever appealed to me musically.

My gripe is more with the mainstream media than with the Beibers and Parlotones of this world. For instance, why should I know what their songs sound like if I have never intentionally sat down and listened to a single one of their tracks? They can make kak music, that's fine, but why should I be punished everytime I turn on the TV or radio or make a trip to the mall, pub etc. That's how I see it. You can interpret it as sour grapes if you like.

But I wonder why it comes up every time that they wear eyeliner. Keef wore eyeliner. Ozzy wore eyeliner. Jimmy Page wore eyeliner. Bowie wore a lot more. I for one don't understand the disgust some people get whenever a man does something ever so slightly feminine.

+1 on the eyeliner thing. Some awesome performers and musicians have worn make up without it being reason to dislike them. I have to add RObert Smith from the Cure.

Also, I don't think people would be complaining about the eyeliner as much if the Parlotones were making more edgy music. I've never heard anyone bitch about Keef, Ozzy, or Jimmy's eyeliner.

They are corporate and boring though. Listless is the perfect word to describe them. Even more so in recent years. I saw them at a TUKS Rag before they had their pictures on KFC boxes and whatnot and they were actually quite fun to watch. Now they're one of two SA bands whose set I always use as an interval to get food and drinks if they're at a festival or whatever.

ag, you know, it really doesn't affect me one way or the other. at most, it just means i won't have to see them on the odd night i happen to walk in on the kids and the missus watching some or other sa reality show they happen to be playing on.

the dudes aren't my faves, but they ain't my worst neither...

I am trying Jacaranda in the mornings on the way to work. I am in a lift club and music tastes are vastly different, so cd's are out of the question.

The Riaan dude in the mornings seems a bit less PC than John Robbie and his voice a bit easier to take than that Highveld Wombat.

I would rather listen to Theuns Jordaan than all this walt disney music that the other stations play. Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry etc.

Mixfm 93.8 only gets good after 20:00

I haven't heard the Parlotones for awhile ?
