Been watching ZZ Top's "Live from Texas" show, and couldn't help noticing one of the Reverend's many guitars:

While it's not the prettiest guitar I've seen, the more I watch the more it grows on me.

It's custom made, but built to Gretsch specs apparently. It's the G6199 Jupiter Thunderbird supposedly, though the closest I can find to it on the Gretsch site is this:

Unless I'm reading it wrong (wouldn't be the first time) it's only available in red, and sans Bigsby...

Both of these things I'm able to get past, but the huge barrier is the price, I think around $3k. Now I know Gretsch has some Korean(?) made models, I've played one of the MIK Electromatics, a properly decent guitar. While it's still not cheap, at R9k, it's not bad considering the US equivalent. Anyone know if the Jupiter Thunderbird may be available as a MIK model?
Save up and have the Gibbons one built? ? I think its gorgeous :-[

'Tis a good idea, and tempting too. But I suspect the cost of that may come close to what I'd pay for a genuine one? ?

Try your hand at building and make one :?
I've had a guitar in the pipeline for the past few years, never have the time to get it finished...
