I finally got to see Eric Johnson after being a see saw fan for the last 20 years or so. He played in a small club in London last week and it was his first UK tour in a long long time. I remember getting G3 tickets in the 90s and was disappointed when only Vai and Satriani turned up (although they did have Adrian Legg open for them!).
Anyway it was a good gig and did inspire me. I was surprised by how much better his voice was than on record, still not a fan of the voice but I found it did overall enhance the gig (sometimes I get bored when purely instrumental). The band also got better so by mid way into the 2nd set he was really on fire and ripping it up. His clean tones and playing was probably best in my opinion, the dirty stuff is very particular and somethimes got lost and was at times nasal-y sounding.
He played the strat mostly with an 335 on 2 or 3 numbers.
