There was at least one member that posts regularly that for a year or two didn't have any instruments. If that's still the case I think he qualifies for a new amp.

This begs the question: if he doesn't have any instruments, why would he need an amp? ?

At least he would have something to bargain with, maybe someone will be willing to swop him for an Acoustic Guitar or something.

Yeah. I'm fully behind donating any gear acquired like that to a muso who'll not only love it, but couldn't otherwise get their hands on such stuff. I think that would be the best use of our voting bloc - and a good way of showing that this form of competition is ludicrous.
I move that we go with this plan.
Any disagreements? (apart from poor Jayhell ☹ )
greetings
Jayhell - you have to live in Cape Town to be eligible.
I like your guys' ideas ? I'm all for supporting whichever one of the two options is chosen - would both be for good.
By the way, I know a great kid who has a guitar, but no amp - and he is desperately trying to get an amp. If we decide on helping a muso who doesn't have gear, then he could be an option.

Where do I sign........

Maybe we should go about it strategically and save up all (or most) of our votes until the day before voting ends or something like that. That way, whichever competition our horse might have will not know exactly what the target is until it is too late ?
Psean
Ja, I think deeftes has a plan there...

The member went through a difficult time and had to sell everything. He has a guitar now I think. Either way, we should nominate someone for #1 or #2 above. Or someone should come forth to be the winner/barer.

I like the worthy cause one.

I got a job, so I'll be able to buy myself a new amp sometime soon I guess. It sucks that you have to live in cape town, I missed that completely, how about friend who lives in cape town picks it up???
Anyway, I'm leading on the votes at this stage. It looks like only three entries are in so far (I wonder why no one is taking part thou).
But I say, yes to a good cause. Then we shut up about it and hopefully do it again and again. The Robin Hoods of GFSA!
We should get a move on though and start voting systematically as not to arouse suspicion.
singemonkey
Cool. Well, it'd be nice to use your existing votes, but the non-Cape Town thing will cause a snag. We should get a candidate from here and start pouring the votes on. Anyone up for it - who's not secretly planning on burning us at the end ? ?
DDR4LYF
I'm amped to help out a needy GFSAer!!! We need candidates though. I don't really know anyone who fits the category at the moment...

Once you find someone who qualifies I'll help with the voting. I hate these popularity comps.
deefstes
Uhm, why is it that we're having such a hard time identifying someone who would like a FREE amp? Everyone is chomping at the bits to cast their votes but we don't know who to vote for?
Keira-WitherKay
Ok hey vote fixing happens all the time , but arranging it on a public forum , mmmm by this i'm assuming musicians don't mastermind many such schemes ? ok great idea but keep it on the low down, sure some folk arranging the competition log on or i'll even bet if you just google the competition this thread will pop up , so if your candidate wins will this thread be evidence of vote rigging or not ?
G-Man
I think the Special Offers & Deals section is hidden to guests, not exactly secure but I know what you mean. I'd much rather a member from here wins than random internet people who may not even play an instrument in the first place. We must just check the terms and conditions of the comp, and see if such arrangments disqualifies the entrant.

Feel free to PM me nominations for worthy recipients (and why). Member or otherwise.
There is nothing wrong with the "vote rigging" in this case. We are just trying to change it from being a popularity contest into being a worthy cause. The whole reason for the competition is to get publicity for the sponsor and the brand and, if/when we all jump on it, it will do just that (probably spreading it even wider than it would have gone otherwise - I'll throw everything I can behind it). Simply by discussing it now, we are giving it longer legs.
Upsides:
- Sponsor and brand get more publicity
- Someone in need benefits
- We get to feel good about ourselves

If/When this thing gets the go ahead, how about one of you ( cough Alan/singemonkey cough) do a nice little write up that we can all share on our Facebook status update, explaining what we doing and why, and that will encourage folk who see it to really put in a vote?

Exactly how I would do it. Will also promote via the newsletters and any other avenue that pops up. If we're going to do it, we must try do it properly.?
