Been asked to join a punk/metal band

So I jammed this weekend and was asked if I'd be keen to try out / join a local band as a rythym guitarist. I have no idea what to expect, I'm still weighing up the pros and cons. I have zero live playing experience, only played with other people a few times and I'm not sure what to expect from the whole thing. I mean, I practiced with the intention of playing with others at some point, but now it's here and I'm not sure. Any wise words?

Fixed it for ya...lol

They definitely have the attitude down.
Oh yea!....but they definitely have a more Metallic edge than the trad punk bands of the seventies.

Try Genocide SS, its punk on steroids, bordering on death/grind

Agree with everyone else, go for it but I do agree with one of the other comments, make sure you have the time.

Well thanks everyone for the words of encouragement, I think I'm still a little in shock going from playing guitar as a hobby in the spare room to actually playing with other people, and being told that I'm not completely rubbish. I will give it a full go and see where everything leads. I might not even be asked back after the first couple of practices , but saying no would just make me kick myself later for not even making an attempt.

It's not far off from what I normally play, so now it's just a matter of forcing myself to not be lazy and play on my feet 100% of the time now, and lowering my guitar strap a bit ? . I have been fortunate enough to learn most of the songs that I have chosen to tackle in the past all the way through, so the "work ethic" is there, now the practicing needs to intensify and my technique should follow.

I just hope that I can fit everything in around work, family, life and and and.... But it's early days so we'll see. I'll keep you posted ?

Depends which albums. Early stuff like Punk's not Dead and Troops of tomorrow was pretty much stright-up hardcore punk IMO. Later on there's DEFINITELY a metal edge though.

Jack Flash Jr wrote Ok. In retrospect that wasn't a very helpful comment... I think it's a great opportunity and you will never regret trying, if it isn't for you or playing live isn't for you then at least you know. If it does work for you prepare to fall in love with a whole other dimension of music....

And ja, HAVE FUN? I envy you; your thread may have just provided me with some motivation to pull my finger out and get jamming with others again.

The one thing that I regret, is not playing the guitar with other people from the start...........it really forces you to push up your game and damn, it's so much fun.

Jamming with others will make you improve 100 x faster than sitting and playing by yourself, most importantly because it teaches you feel and timing...
