It is a bit like 'pap and wors' vs 'steak and chips'...

My band The CopyCats have had a residential central London
gig for over 20 years. Me and 'Bushy', my other guitarist,
have generally been on a par sonically, as guitarists.

But recently I have been blowing 'Bushy' off the podium
without much effort at all.

Pap and Wors
Bushy uses a Marshall 2 channel 80/80 amp, Marshall Guv'nor pedal,
Korg Multi Effects device, DoD Octopus, a compressor and
a custom built Strat with EMG pick-ups.

Steak and Chips
I play a Blonde 1997 ES 335.
I use a Marshall TSL 122, but only through the clean channel.
I am totally on fire with a Craig VG pedal for hot rhythm
and a slightly modded ToeNail Clipper for lead playing.

Only 7 more likes before i can get a custom pedal ?

Im thinking another fuzz... or maybe a compressor... damn, choices choices!
But there needs to be 200 likes!

Lets support local... We're getting boutique quality at "Boss" prices!
how does one NOT support that?? ?

Arjun / Joel...

Great post Joe. You've mirrored my thoughts pretty well.

Just a few more thoughts from me...

1. The RH side of the pedal (Vintage R side) has a very open sound to it and has lots of gain to it. This side also acts as a great boost if required.
2. The toggle switch in the middle really does wonders depending on the kind of guitar used. With humbuckers i preferred the switch in the up position. The down position would be good to thicken up single coils.
3. The artwork is quite appealing
4. The LH side of the pedal (Toe Nail Clipper side) has a lot of gain available.

Overall this is a very interactive pedal and has a whole range of tones available.

Looking forward to EZ's thoughts

Hey guys, thanks for the congrats, although I didn't achieve anything. And I agree, the competition was definitely rigged! I never win these things! I am super happy though, very awesome of Benjamin to give something away for free.

Benjamin is an awesome character with a lot of knowledge - it really makes a difference that he does not only build pedals, but also understands the way guitars, pedals and amps interact in terms of impedances and so on. His amp knowledge is actually invaluable when it comes to building pedals. People forget that with analogue, the guitar/pedals/amp become one big interactive circuit, so you can't just copy schematics off the internet and expect wonders.

So after a very lengthy discussion with Benjamin, he agreed on the following:

I am really into the vintage stuff, clean boosts, light overdrive etc., so he will build a dual type pedal that is essentially two Dallas Rangemaster treble booster circuits, one with more gain/grit than the other, using germanium transistors that he has.

The two boosts will run independently or cascaded in either order, just like that duel at dawn pedal he did.

It doesn't end there though, like the 65amps colour boost or the keely java boost, the Craigamps pedal will have different voicings for each circuit and clipping options so that it can really be used as a tone shaping pedal.

What drew me to the rangemaster type circuit is the way it interacts with the guitar's volume - it changes it's eq and goes from boosting treble to boosting more of the mids, which is awesome if you use your guitar volume to clean up your overdrive or to get a lead tone. Benjamin said this has to do with the changing of impedance or something - I really have no idea.

I can't wait to see what he comes up with! I definitely challenged him to go a bit mad and do something quite different, but I know that he can handle this easily.

Any input is appreciated, especially concerning a colour scheme or design!
