So for a while I have been itching to upgrade my delay (currently have a DD-20) and a few have caught my eye. I really wouldn't mind having both a digital and analogue delay on my pedal board. For this reason my thoughts have been as follows...

For the analog I was thinking the Strymon Brigadier, Really like its sound and with the favorite pedal I can save a preset.

For the digital I would love the Strymon Timeline, but I do feel I'd be throwing money away. Therefore I was either debating holding onto the DD-20 or replacing it with the TC Nova Delay (I would like a pedal with a few presets).

What are your guys thoughts on this?
If you want the presets and the configurability, and both digital and analogue voicings, then I think the Nova Delay is the most obvious choice?
The only thing to be aware of is that some people complain that it's not easy enough to switch presets on the Nova delay... you have to tap the tap-tempo switch once and then quickly tap the on/off switch to scroll through presets (scrolling is only one way, so if you go too far you need to scroll through all the presets again).

The people who complain though are typically the folks who set up presets per song (I.e. delay sound, tempo, sub-division etc set per song)... I set up my presets per sound, so I switch less and it works great! I love my Nova!

There's a mod to add a footswitch to change presets if I remember correctly..

I know the Nova has the analogue voicings...but if I got it would it warrant getting the brig null and void?

This would solve your issue Rikus: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?2834245-TC-Nova-Delay-External-Preset-switch-Mod
Thanks for the link to the Mod. It's safely filed away in my bookmarks...

I can't say that for sure, only you can decide if "analogue voiced digital" is as good to your ears as "analogue". For me, with the TC Flashback, I feel I have the best of many worlds with the various voicings (which all sound excellent), the only thing I can't do is save different presets and recall them easily, so the Flashback wouldn't work for your needs. But the Nova's voicings are of the same quality, so you'd need to test drive one (preferably against some other analogue pedals, which is what I did).
The time line has what the brig has....same algorithmic, so id guess the only reason for having both is to cascade them ?

i think the dd-20 holds its own, it and the line6 dl4 are the standard for digital delay.
Thou i do agree that the nova is a step up.

If your looking for grate analog and analog voiced delays(based on personal experience):

                EQD Disaster Transport
                Brigadeur
                Subdecay Echo Box
                Mad Professor Deep Blue CB

I got a brig about 2 months ago, that led me to think that i have no use for my EQD anymore, after trying to sell it, i used it on a keys last week, long story short, i kicked a phaser off of my board to make room for both the Brig and EQD.

                Happy shopping.
Timeline or TimeFactor- one delay to do everything. The Strymon analog and tape emulations are better than just about anything else. Digital, it's a toss up between Strymon and Eventide, depending on features (for what I do, I lean a little more to Eventide). So if you need both (or all three), the Strymon comes out ahead.

The Nova Delay does the digital and modulated well, but the analog and tape delay sims are rather flat with little character of their own - and IMO Tape and analog are all about the character they impart. Flashback is good for a range of tones, but no patches...
                    I love my Brigadier. LOADS!

So yesterday I got myself a Nova Delay... So the quest for the next while is to compare my DD-20 side by side and then sell the one I find less desirable.
I would keep both ? delay is never too much.

Interesting read, I have the Nova Delay. I am no delay expert but I find "that delay" tone I am looking for I cant seem to find in the Nova.

I am thinking of replacing it with something else. Perhaps I am after an analogue delay (although I really love and use reverse delay a lot) I heard a band over the weekend using the EHX memory boy and it sounded pretty good.

                            So a little update....

After tinkering around with both pedals a bit, i have found that one cant really replace the other... I have found that for a U2 style digital delay I prefer the Nova delay, but the DD-20 has so many extra features that are actually really awesome! To compare the pedals I went to the web to find a bunch of different users favorite presets and basically discovered I knew about a 10th of what the DD-20 can do!!! It really is an incredibly versatile pedal! So I guess its a little bit more playing with both before I decide on either one, or sell both and just get a Strymon Timeline (really love their analog sounds!).

Where did you get the Brig from? It sounds pretty damn sweet on YouTube

Grab it on their website: www.strymon.net

                                That's where I got mine.
Greg, how long did yours take to get here?

Not too long, the Post Office was the slow part, not Strymon.

Sorry, didn't see your post. Got mine from the local distributor. But I think they closed down, they had this crazy blowout about a week after I got mine :'(

But yea, its a really nice, I'm way past the honey moon phase and I still love it. I just wish I got a 90 deg. jack for my favorite switch instead of the straight one.
