  • New pickup suggestions

I have a stock standard PRS Santana SE, one of these http://www.artmusic2.com/images/PRS.Santana1.276747.jpg

However, I mainly play more punk/heavy hardcore/metal (using the bridge pickup exclusively) - which I really dont think my guitar was designed for. So I was contemplating changing a pickup for something more fitting to the style I play. I love my guitar, and apart from that, cash is a constraint on getting a new guitar completely.

I really have no clue about pickups at all, so what would you suggest?

I have heard of EMG's being the go-to pickups for a more heavy distorted tone?

    Might be a cheaper solution?

Otherwise I'd recommend the Crunch Lab or Full Shred for very tight tones, the CL being the thicker of the 2.

Why aren't you happy with your current tones?
yeah how do you get your gain? You should be able to get punk/heavy hardcore/metal with a Santana, depending on the amp/pedals you have...

Currently I just use a 100W solid state amp with a distortion pedal (Boss metal zone) through the clean channel - which I actually find doesn't sound too bad and not as generic "metal zoney" as some others. But, I'm going to be importing an all tube amp soon enough (and I'll do away with the pedal) and was just thinking I might look into pickups while I'm at it. Add it into the shipment.
Especially when going away from pedal and towards amp drive, the tube amp is going to have to be the one that makes the tone. what are you getting? I understand about the logistics but with the right amp for the job, you'd better hold on to your cash until you have played the setup for a while.

Here's a great new video showing the Seymour Duncan high output range:

            hmm.. why's it not embedding?

Yeah, will do. Rather wait and see rather than change it all at once. Will keep you guys posted.

I am thinking maybe Seymours are the way.

I was about to post it in gear anyway.
