Just wondering, if anyone has ever bought from RS?

They seem expensive. Eg: Looking at the JJ Electronics EL34's, they are selling for R223ea where Mr Valve sells them for R170ea.

TRue. I forgot about Mr Valve. But I wonder how bad those chinese tubes are?
I read somewhere (I think it was diyaudio.com), that one guy on there always just puts in cheap chinese tubes, and swears by them.

I'm in Durban too. I'm looking to get a few 12ax7's and a couple of EL34's, EL84's and possibly a few 6L6's. Depending on cash flow the time. Although I'm not too sure at this time.

I'm just sourcing options right now.

Well to put it into perspective, that JJ EL34 valve mentioned above, costs $10.20 from my supplier, so even with VAT added its under R100.

I have the one with the pull out and move two prong thingy, and the previous owner lost the original one so it has this bastardized thing jammed in there now. I pulled it out and Im using the original Marshall ones from my plexi, but since the JMP50 is my main amp, figured I'd swop it to a switchable one. Few forums suggest this as they say these pins fall out and then its byebye transformers.

Why don't you just order yourself? Less R60.. and plus tax isn't that much, and you only pay when your stuff is over a certain value. Also, you've overstated exchange.. Whenever I've bought tubes from yonder its been cheaper than anything here. And far greater choice. Also, look on ebay. You can often find some bargains.

To answer the original question.... RS no longer stocks or brings in the JJ valves. The Chinese one's work and they work well. However don't expect great tonal quality (warmth, definition or what ever else one can hear). These tubes are in my opinion very dull, meaning they will work great for the typical hi-fi/home theater system, because what you put in comes out amplified very clearly. I bought a pair of EL84's and some 12AX7's that I use for testing or building. Hard working little buggers, but they have no character.

You guys can now continue with your tube order placements... Just thought I'd add my few cents worth.
