They look great. But with my experience of Squiers, I really wonder whether they'll be any good.
well the thing is fenders or squiers in this case were designed as modular instruments......thats how leo intended fenders to be ............ so if you say get a jaguar you may find .......with a neck replacement and then tuners and pups and you looking at a very playable guitar .......... just mod away ...........
BUT yes i agree that just expecting it out of the box to be this awesome guitar is a bit of ambitious thinking
and yes we all would love to drive around in an astin martin or ferrari but hey we drive the cheaper cars and it works for us............so why not with guitars too
this is a matter i been agonising over for a while now , and despite owning some "nice" guitars i still believe i can get a good sound out of any guitar that stays in tune ,
and in fact just this last tuesday , i was playing one of my "nice " guitars and i picked up an old beat up sx tele absolutely stock (which i own but loaned to a student ) and even after the "way better " guitar it sounded great tonally and yes the neck felt cheap ect but it played well....... and i in fact i often if i find something interesting in a cheapie/pawn shop guitar will actually gig the guitar , and hey sure my gigs ain't no mega events but they still pro gigs and no one has ever said the sound sucked that night i played the cheapie most people don't even notice..that sx tele in question and a cheap LTD eclipse played a lot of gigs at sun city along with the usa strat , an Aria 175 jazz box and a usa tele ..............an i doubt anyone noticed.........
so maybe we must ignore all the GAS promoting info we read here on these "gear" forums and just be happy with what we got ....... cos those pawn shop specials and cheaper guitars can do the job , if we look past the snob value of the label on the headstock ......
but as i say i agonise over this cos in the other breath i love the feel of a top end guitar ......... grrrrrrrrrrr
so i say yeah buy that squier , knowing full well it may need some mods but i'm sure you will get a playable, giggable guitar for under 3 K (or 4K if the prices go up as they have been )
and i agree they look way cool.............. instant vintage vibe ............for me the modified jaguar with the humbuckers is the one i'd want in sunburst those offset bodies look way cool , and i read they were designed offset like that for the jazzmaster which was designed to be played sitting down , but unfortunately the jazz muso's didn't take to it as leo intended, but for a player like me who sits and plays i would like to try one.......... and with the humbuckers instead of the single coils it should have a fat jazzy tone ........ so maybe i'll also be in the que to buy one ?
