  • Squier Vintage Modified Series

Supposedly launching in June/July this year. Must say, i wouldnt mind one of each, and all 3 together will prob cost the same as its Fender counterpart.

Jazzmaster

Jaguar

Mustang

US prices should come at 300-350. Not sure what they'll retail here tho,if we are gonna get them. I can only hope...
Cool! But eish.. Wonder what those trems are going to be like ?

Well, even the vintage models had issues with the trems, so if theyre going for 'vintage correct', i'd say lock them trems down! haha.
Oh lordy I wouldnt mind that green Jaguar or the red Mustang. Must resist GAS...

Would be awesome if they brought out an affordable Jagstang for the budget guitarist like me ?
Oooooh - I like that white Jag 8)

yup, my faves go like this - White Jazzmaster, Sunburts Jag, Sonic Blue Mustang. i want them all.. NOW!!
They look great. But with my experience of Squiers, I really wonder whether they'll be any good.

Always wanted to own a Surf Green Jazzmaster. Heck, the quality may not be all there. But it may be the closest thing I'll ever get to the original. ? ?

Some mods and it may well be a nice little addition to the family. ?

Spoke to the guys at Music Mate, these should land this side of the world in about 3 weeks.

I see MusiciansFriend sells em for $299 - at the moment thats R2500 give or take.

I wonder if they'll retail here for about 3k...

here are some pics of the actual guitars posted on OffsetGuitars..

Cant find pics of the Mustang yet.. BOO!

well the thing is fenders or squiers in this case were designed as modular instruments......thats how leo intended fenders to be ............ so if you say get a jaguar you may find .......with a neck replacement and then tuners and pups and you looking at a very playable guitar .......... just mod away ...........

BUT yes i agree that just expecting it out of the box to be this awesome guitar is a bit of ambitious thinking

and yes we all would love to drive around in an astin martin or ferrari but hey we drive the cheaper cars and it works for us............so why not with guitars too

this is a matter i been agonising over for a while now , and despite owning some "nice" guitars i still believe i can get a good sound out of any guitar that stays in tune ,

and in fact just this last tuesday , i was playing one of my "nice " guitars and i picked up an old beat up sx tele absolutely stock (which i own but loaned to a student ) and even after the "way better " guitar it sounded great tonally and yes the neck felt cheap ect but it played well....... and i in fact i often if i find something interesting in a cheapie/pawn shop guitar will actually gig the guitar , and hey sure my gigs ain't no mega events but they still pro gigs and no one has ever said the sound sucked that night i played the cheapie most people don't even notice..that sx tele in question and a cheap LTD eclipse played a lot of gigs at sun city along with the usa strat , an Aria 175 jazz box and a usa tele ..............an i doubt anyone noticed.........

so maybe we must ignore all the GAS promoting info we read here on these "gear" forums and just be happy with what we got ....... cos those pawn shop specials and cheaper guitars can do the job , if we look past the snob value of the label on the headstock ......

but as i say i agonise over this cos in the other breath i love the feel of a top end guitar ......... grrrrrrrrrrr

so i say yeah buy that squier , knowing full well it may need some mods but i'm sure you will get a playable, giggable guitar for under 3 K (or 4K if the prices go up as they have been )

and i agree they look way cool.............. instant vintage vibe ............for me the modified jaguar with the humbuckers is the one i'd want in sunburst those offset bodies look way cool , and i read they were designed offset like that for the jazzmaster which was designed to be played sitting down , but unfortunately the jazz muso's didn't take to it as leo intended, but for a player like me who sits and plays i would like to try one.......... and with the humbuckers instead of the single coils it should have a fat jazzy tone ........ so maybe i'll also be in the que to buy one ?

Well, that sonic blue jazzmaster definitely looks the business! Wow....

i must eat my words of my earlier post on this post ....... i went to marshall music who had a squire jaguar (modified series) and it was as singemonkey mentioned of his bad experience with squires and it was really bad quality and they still had the marked price at R4900 and everything was just 'cheap " i have seen way better squires out there ............so forget my first post re......it should be ok it's a squire ......... so i'm deleting my positive post above......... lets hope the others feel and look better and this is just a bad one in the bunch

i tried deleting my post but could not .......????????

yeah those normal 'Modified' series is utter ribbish.. was it the one with the strat type hardtail? i hate those..

4900? what are they smoking..? the new series will land in SA cheaper than that, around 3200, thats with a gig bag, strap, lead and picks. 1 or 2 weeks to go before they hit at Music Connection here in JHB.

I've been keeping an eye on the thread on OffsetGuitar forum, and everyone seems very happy with their purchases. so i am asuming that i will be too. ha!

Checked out the Jaguar and Jazzmaster at Music Mate Cresta today. must say, they are awesome! didnt plug in tho, but feels really good and solid. build quality is outstading.

the only thing i noticed is that they didnt seem set up.. no biggy tho, as most stores do this when you buy. damn, i want one (well, actually 3) now!

the Jag they have is sunburst, which i was worried about seeing they use multiple spreads of wood to make the body.. but the spreads were really well matched and the joins hardly visible.

all in all, i rate these guitars will bring back nice affordable retro cool Fender vibes. price tag said R4200, but when i mailed em last they said they can slash that price a bit, im thinking R3500 max.
