nope, and nope; you do get rev-log pots and a log pot connected in reverse won't do what a rev-log pot does. that will just change the direction that you travel along the curve (or the direction you turn the knob to get what you want out of it), and depending on the symmetry of its taper, it might do something a little different. a rev-log pot is a pot that has a convex taper instead of a concave one. ie resistance increases logarithmically as opposed to exponentially.
i found a great resource for fun with pots.. but i've lost it. you'd be pretty surprised with what you can do. will try and find it again. anyway, rev-log pots - they're not readily available here. in my experience you have to get them from overseas. not too bad if you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks. gives you some time to plan the build properly.

great transistors avail there too. Jeremy is very right, most fuzzes (based on the simple original fuzz face circuit - most of them are to a greater or lesser extent) rely quite heavily on the transistors used. another thing to bear in mind is that not all transistors of a type are made the same. in a batch of 50 germanium transistors for example, it is likely that all 50 will have different biasing needs. so your resistors values become important and should be replaced by trim pots during assembly, and replaced once the adequate values are found. this is more influential in some configurations than in others, but for every circuit its something that should be kept in mind.
i'd like to know which fuzz you're building with an opamp?
my next try will be the fuzz factory. love the tones Frusciante gets out of that thing.

whew. glad i could find that one again.. very useful..
