  • if you in jhb this weekend (sat) come support your local jazz guitarists gig

hi ya , yep i'm still in town this long weekend........... and if you too are still in jhb ............ pop in to my afternoon gig on sat 7th at Tasca do sol , which is situated on the corner of motor rd and lewes rd in westdene (which is just up the hill from meleville main rd and oposite the westdene dam ) the street adress is 12 lewes rd , westdene

the gig starts at 1 pm and i play out on the veranda (thats the "stoep" for people from pta like myself ?) it's undercover and dogs and kids are allowed........

it's a jazz gig ............ 8) so no CCR sing alongs or rock covers ........... but it grooves........... and it''s prob all instrumental ( but my vocalist may pitch ) but the guitar fans don't worry there's "lots of notes for your money " in the improv sections ?

my percussionist will be joining me.......... the fabulous mr Ian Brady , this man knows how to groove and not sure (because f the holidays and family commitments) but there's a chance my vocalist the fabulous and gorgeous Sarah will be singing a set or so in course of the day ............ however her presence is to be confirmed on the day ............

but we ( Ian and i ) will entertain you with an infectious groove of guitar and percussion .........

obviously NO backtracks are used and everything you hear is 100% live..............

the restaurant is open and specialises in portuguese food with a peri peri chicken to die for............ but you needn't eat and feel free to pop in for drinks ............

and NO COUVERT CHARGE but you would be expected to order drinks even if you don't eat

times are from 1pm to about sunset

it's a soft gig but really vibrant

and don't let the word Jazz scare you off.it's all jazz standards from 30's /40's so songs most people know......... so traditional jazz..not jazz fusion .......... and of course some latin and Flamenco songs will be played too .........all played in my style of playing chords/bass lines/melody or improv all simultaneously on one guitar and then i still play percussion and then ian adds in even more percussion ...........

so if you in jhb and free on saturday afternoon ........... pop in for a drink or a bite ...............and see how two old muso's play jazz .......... as a duo we thinking of calling ourselves "The Jazz Dinasours" since "The Hip Replacements"(what a cool name) has already been taken by another jhb band ?

.keep em coming ......... all suggestions welcome

but you gotta admit "The hip replacements" is absolutely classic band name for older muso's
        The Bus Passes.

Thanks! Thanks! I'm here all week.

please take a bow Bob ...........thats even better than "the zimmer frames" ?

but i think that one is more appropriate for UK ... do they give out bus passes here ?

but i'm seriously looking for a fab name for the duo ...... and something tongue in cheek (or gum) is always better ......so lets keep em coming

if we were an older ROCK band i would call the band "The Fossils" but fossil is more associated to the word "rock" than jazz
