The world needs MORE youtube-tokkeler-imitations like it needs a whole in the ozone, rather make good music/songs, which have pretty much become extinct, if not seriously endangered. It's all either dubstep noise or some guy trying to shred some exotic scale as fast as possible with droning unmelodic hipster indie crap in between.
There is plenty of good music around, whatever your definition of "good" is. I've had a blast the last few years, finding lots of stuff that fits in with my tastes and extending my tastes with new (to me) and interesting artists and records. Factor in the re-issues and there's a whole smorgasbord of stuff to explore.
You just won't find much of it in Look and Listen, in Musica or on the radio. But it's out there, make no mistake.
I recently got a copy of Richard Haslop's "best of 2011" article. He briefly reviews over 50 new (in that year) albums, lists about 50 more "honourable mentions", then deals with live discs and re-issues made available in that year. So that's over a 150 releases in the year. And it's not all "dubstep noise" either ? or "folk" or "world music". Nor, as it's Richard Haslop we're talking about, is it anything you're likely to see on VH-1 and MTV or hear on the radio.
