I wanted to know, is there a way of getting the low B string to not flap around as much. Is it possible to get strings that are tighter or something? My higher strings are A-G are fine, but I feel like it would probably be nicer to play the E and B with tighter strings (the B more so).
Are there mixed gauge strings for bass? I think you get that from a fanned fret bass, but I don't really have the cash for another bass... let alone something like that...

don't pluck it as hard... ?
Are you talking about when you play it generally or open?

The lowest 5 notes, I suppose. Just wondering if a thicker gauge of strings will make the strings seem firmer?

You are limited to .125 or .130 for low B strings. Even the .130 is at a lower tension than your other strings - but if they make them thicker, they become very inflexible and impractical in other ways. The longer scale lengths obviously make a difference. I also find the low B hangs together better on better guitars - especially through necks.

Depends on your style, but I only use fingers and play across the bridge pickup where the strings are pretty rigid. By the way Warwick strings go to a 135 and the B string still feels quite flexible.

I'm not such a fan of the playing over the bridge pickup sound. It seems too hollow for me in general (obviously there are times where is works really well.
Managed to get a tape measure in inches and mine is a 34" scale. So I think I've found the problem. I've been practicing a lot more regularly lately and find the low B much easier to control. Thanks for the pointers!
